So I've had my planning CT scan. Went by train from Warwick to Birmingham as this is the trip I will have to do during the treatment. Not too bad. A bit of walking between stations. Hopefully will be able to have my treatment and still do the school run in the morning and afternoon, so hoping to get a lunchtime appointment slot.
Got changed into my gown, which will be mine for the next 3 weeks. and then taken in for my scan.
A radiographer sat down with me and went over how long my radiotherapy...
From doctors discussing my illness over and over again, between Birmingham and the Marsden, they have finally made a decision on how to treat my melanoma tumours. I have 2 tumours at present, one behind my breastbone, which is growing and very painfull, and one below my right kidney. The plan of attack is to use radiotherapy for 3 weeks on my breastbone tumour, then an operation on my kidney tumour. So start radiotherapy next Tuesday (23/02/10) for three weeks. Hopefully keeping a diary will help...

Well, this is my first sick week off work ever, when I haven't felt tired from treatment or been unwell. My white blood cell and neutrophil counts were low on Monday, so I couldn't start my 2nd cycle of treatment and because my immunity was low, it was best to avoid too many contacts. I settled down to watch daytime TV, always having thought I was missing something by being at work. Wrong!!! I did join this web site, having thought about it for some weeks, so that was something positive. Pottering...
just an update, went for the broncospy yesterday, but they were unable to get biopsies just the wash and scrape, I was in too much distress, so they are going to give me a general on Tuesday, its going to be a loooong weekend, but what are we all here for is waiting and living, and hoping.
Saw the consultant with Mum and Dad, all seems quite positve.
OK so they cannot cure this horrible disease but they are thinking that the tumour has traits of a carcinoma which is not typical of small cell. Carcinoma is good in my opinion as it may buy us time with my lovely Dad. We have to wait for the scans to be done after this bout of chemo to be more sure but hey I am happy to go with that prognosis at the moment! ;-)
Hi all
Was back at the Western Gerneral in Edinburgh on Tuesday and I have 'the pills' I am not starting them until next Tuesday as husband is night shift this week and was worried in case I took a bad reaction and he was not here to take me to hospital. I have looked at them and they look harmless - just small white capsules - hard to imagine the poison that is inside this little capsule. I have a vision of myself taking one and ending up like one of Agatha Christie's victims - grabbing...
So off i go to the hospital bright and early on a Monday morning.I had the op done,I was in the operating room for 6 hours which was quite a bit longer than it was supposed to be but i was just grateful that it was over.I was told that i would have tubes coming from everywhere after the op so I decided that I didnt want the kids to see me like that so I they didnt come to see me till the next day(I thought i looked ok by this point but a few weeks later they told me i looked like one of the Simpsons...
Well after my close escape with the endoscopy,I got dressed and went to see the consultant. He told me that i had a benign liver tumour probably caused by being on the pill.He told me that it wouldnt turn cancerous,it wasnt likely to get much bigger and it wouldnt rupture. He said it wouldnt really cause me any problems so it was upto me if i wanted to have it removed.
He told me go home and research it on the net and come back in a couple of weeks and tell him if i wanted it removed. He explained...
Went for my hospital appt today after finding a lump in my breast approx 3 weeks ago. Doctor examined me and said I needed a mammogram and an ultrasound then he would speak to me about the results. Well when I got back to see the Doctor, he said the lump which he thought was innocent didn't look that way on the tests and that I would need a biopsy. Had two biopsies done and the Doctor said to me that she thinks it's Cancer. We chatted about it and she said I will have to go back next week...
