Bert - BabyBear. Posted on Teri's behalf

Teri contacted me in the early hours of this morning to tell me, 'with heavy heart that Bert passed away after fighting so hard for 18 months'.

Bert did indeed fight so very hard over the last 18 months and what more valiant soldier could he have had by his side? No one could have done more than Teri and I know she is so grateful for the support of all her many friends on this site. I know we will all be wishing her well at this time, whilst of course hoping that Bert is now finally at peace...

IT'S OFFICIAL.... I HAVE BREAST CANCER

It's official.  Went to the hospital today for the results of my biopsies I had done.  Dr told me I have breast cancer.  They found a nodule on my breast too, but that's benign.  Dr told me that as the nodule was benign, they do not need to do a mastectomy, they can do a lumpetcomy (unless I wish to have a mastectomy).   Asked the Dr a few questions, then went to chat with a Breast Nurse.  She gave me loads of info about the disease and made me an appt to go back next week, when she will be able...

Ok so Dad has had some bad reactions to his chemo,

so far it goes like this:

    Diagnosed dec 09

1st chemo cisplatin in Jan (massive allergic reaction so no more of this)

2nd chemo 3 weeks later of e-carbo (no probs- dad felt ok)

3rd chemo 2 weeks after of e- carbo (this was yesterday- so far so good)

Now dad was told yesterday he has to wait to see oncologist next week to discuss the fact that he wants to give him a massive blast of e-carbo and another drug (not sure of the name) to attack the...

  • My Melanoma Radiotherapy Diary
    Day 2 of Radiotherapy

I did it!!  I had my radiotherapy and the scan afterwards!!

I felt sick with nerves all morning as my treatment wasn't until this afternoon.  I went on my own on the train yesterday, but I gave in today and asked my mum to go with me.  It did help to keep my mind off things and kept the sickness at bay.

We had to wait around for my timeslot as they were running late, which made my nerves worse. But it gave me time to take some more painkillers.  Then I got called.  It was the same nurses as yesterday...

    escaping!

Clive escaping hospital tomorrow. Has had ct scan and the tumour has grown over to the left lung and is closing the main bronchial tube causing the lung to collapse. They have decided to do another lot of radiotherapy from a different angle as they can't do it more than once in the same place. We are having oxygen at home to help until he has this treatment. He is no longer muddled and back to his usual sharp self thank goodness he has been on a fluid drip to flush out the excess calcium. Have purchased...

Took the pill last night - still here today

Well - still alive today - Don't know what I thought was going to happen.  Feel okay today but last night after I took the first lenalidamide I was very apprehensive.  Anyway - got to sleep okay and was very relieved to waken up this morning.  Went to hospital for weekly platelet input.  It is a horrible day here in Scotland - wet - sleet blowing through and very dark and dismal.  Bought a short pretty wig today in anticipation of losing my hair.  So now I have two wigs and loads of scarves etc.,  Bring...

  • My Melanoma Radiotherapy Diary
    Day 1 of Radiotherapy

So today it all started.  Radiotherapy on my tumour behind my breastbone.  I'm in so much pain now with it I can't wait to get on with it.

Got to the QE hospital in Birmigham early and changed into my breast gown that I will be wearing for my next 15 sessions.  Got called to a little room to go through the paperwork, make sure I wasn't pregnant, go through the side affects.  Told me I couldn't wear deodorant for the course of the treatment, and I couldn't shave my armpits!!!!!  What...
