Well folks, in the post today I had my next appointment for chemo, at my LOCAL hospital! The oncologist had insisted that it could be done there, but the staff were not so sure..... as the onc was so sure my specialist nurse tried again, and spoke to the chemo ward sister, and the pharmacy dept. There was some of the drug in stock, but outdated as it hadn't been used in so long. Good job I went 'long distance' for the first treatment. That was another story altogether. 2.30pm appointment...
When doctors and nurses speak out about unacceptable practices they often put their careers on the line. Patients and carers, too, can find there are many barriers to speaking out, even within official user involvement.
There is to be a 'Whisteblowers Special' section in Private Eye next week - they had so much material they've had to focus on NHS staff as whistleblowers but are using the website - www.medicalharm.org to spread the idea of patients and relatives whistleblowing too...
Hi everyone, I haven't blogged for awhile but I have been around supporting others.
I had a telephone call this morning from my colorectal nurse telling me that I am to be admitted to hospital on the 6th July (exactly 2 years to the day since all this started)
My surgeon wants to build up my electrolytes prior to an operation on the 8th July to reverse my iliostomy.
It has been a long 2 years but now I can see a light at the end of a very very long tunnel. I finally get my bum back!
I intend...
I suppose I will find out soon what going on with my husband he has SCLC (inoperable ) only diagnosed a couple of months ago ( feels like years) , He started chem 8 days ago and since then he has become confused and his speech is a bit slurred. Its so very upsetting, I dont know how much more I can take, just when you think things maybe getting a bit better something else raises its ugly head.
He is going for a brain scan this morning, Oh and the other thing is he cant stand up any more because...
I am a 39 year old mother of two beautiful girls and it has just been confirmed that I have HL. Apart form the initial kick in the guts, I feel like I'm having an out-of-body experience? does anyone else feel like that??
My major concern is how much to tell my girls, who are 8 & 13 and having to tell my dad and brother was for me worse than actually being told of the diagnoses myself!!!
I now feel that I have my mask on, my emotions tied up nicely! and every one has been told to deal with...
ok I'm really finding out who my real friends are now!! And I am very suprised....
Today was my mum's planning pre assessment appointment for her radiotherapy which was fine, although really strange for me to be sat in the waiting room instead of calling patients in!! My mum was really grateful I was there and I'm so glad I could drive her etc. She is due to have 18 fractions of treatement starting on mon. I feel quite gulity as I will be in switzerland then not getting back till late on wed...
We finally got the results of my dads bone scan. It appears there is a hot spot in his right femur. Basically its cancer thats come from his kidney. The doctor rang today to tell us and that my dad had to go straight to hospital to have pins put in his leg as it could break at any time. I'm sat waiting for my husband to pick me up to take me to the hospital. In a way it's a relief because at least now we know what is causing all the pain. Does that sound bad or selfish?
Bad night last night... sobbing like a baby. Very difficult to bear all this and be alone. Dear old Don, the old friend in who's extension I'm staying in until I'm permitted to go to Southampton, is sympathetic enough for sure, but it's not quite the same as having a girlfriend to share with. Yesterday should have been the day that I went to Dublin to put in for yet another India Visa after the enforced two month gap that tourists now have...but of course I couldn't go. I'm no...
