  • Life really is a bitch......
    Beginning of the end

Good news - liver tumour not seen on scan. Tumour in rectus muscle not mentioned on scan report (I still think I can feel it though).

Bad news - three little tumours in my right lung.

Appointment with oncologist. Three options. Do nothing (really??), referral to Dr Mark Middleton at Oxford to see if there are phase 1 trials - downside is that these are usually to determine tolerable doses and therefore could make me feel really ill, or referral to lung team to see if they would do ablation...

    Catch up

I'm pasting this from my profile as I don't want to type it all again, or go into detail of how I got to where I am.

I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in August 2007 when I was 45. I had chemo and radiotherapy (causing an early menopause) to shrink the tumour before it was removed in December 2007. I started chemo in Feb 2008. In January 2010 I was told I had a secondary tumour in each lung. One was removed in February and the other in March. I started chemo in June 2010. In December 2010...

  • Smashing The Stragglers...
    Up and at 'em
With pain relief now halved I decided today was the day I did some extra physical exercise. Just been out for a short run with the dog, to say I am out of shape is an understatement. Six months of doing absolutely nothing has taken its toll and my lungs were screaming after just three minutes. Decided I needed to take it easy and just did some light exercises , press ups and sit ups, even they were hard work. Back home and had to have a bit of a lie down to recover, throat really dry now and...

  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
Two weeks + 1 day after treatment ended

Since my last post things are continuing to improve .... I am still on pain relief (paracetamol and ibuprofen) and my mouth is sore, but I re-introduced minty toothpaste earlier this week on the morning brush. I ate a beanburger which wasn't home made and there must have been some unexpected spices in there that irritated ..... it felt as though I had a huge ulcer at the back of my mouth (just behind my epiglottis) ...... Carrying on eating it was a very brave thing to do, but the next day I haven...

  • Getting my head around it
    What is remission?

My PSA is steady at 2.9 on abiraterone and prednisolone but of course it could be lower.  Days vary from fantastically well and active, (yesterday), to tired, wobbly as though drunk and weak legs, (today).  I don't understand all this.  The only constant is disturbed nights though length of time asleep does vary.

I know the mets are still there but nothing new has gone wrong recently.  My urinary stream varies day to day and night to night although I take tamulosin regularly every morning.  The oncology...

  • Salvage radiotherapy - another journey
Radiotherapy underway, day 19/33 to day 23/33

19/33 Tuesday 22 April: Weight 74.7 kilos. Had my usual weekly chat with Mitch. Told her about my niece’s new baby and my daughter expecting one in August. See, it’s not all about me. Everything ok with me, as far as I am concerned, although the tiredness each day when I get home is getting to me a little. No other major side effects except realising that, when I need to empty my bowels, I mustn’t delay. Also, I have found myself suddenly leaking into my tissue pad, without warning. A bit longer...

  • Cancer in a Campervan!!
    3 days to go.
I could of titled this, "What else do I need to do?" As after 3 months of waiting and preparing for action it is now only 3 days until my operation on Wednesday morning to remove the cancer in the top of my rectum. For those not in the Bowel Colorectal Cancer discussion group, a quick summary to date is that we have bought a 24 year old Vw campervan (name to be decided) with a very small ill health retirement pension I have decided to cash in so as to both fulfil a long held desire to own one...

  • Dyad's second time around
    Bluebells, birches and (yuk) chemo

Just a short update today, as I'm not feeling too great.  Had my 4th of 5 Mytomycin shots on Thursday, and started the 7th of 8 cycles of Capecitabine.  My bloods must be fine, though I forgot to ask for the exact levels.  The registrar I saw (yet another new one) said that I should have a scan after the last cycle of Cap and possibly before the last Myto.  If the scan result is good, I may not even need that Myto.  Timing is pretty tight though:  I'm not sure when they are going to schedule the scan...
