6th to 18th March 2010 - Waiting is the Worst

What then followed were without question some of the worst weeks of life.  I couldn't concentrate at work and took some time off sick with 'anxiety'.  I just wanted to find out as much as I can to try and make contingency plans for work (can you tell I'm a project manager?).  This need to find out details is one of my coping mechanisms and I personally find it very helpful (there are those who say I shouldn't read up on things and I strongly disagree with them).  Knowledge gives...

    5th March 2010 - Triple Assessment

I had hoped to be seen within the week but my appointment date came in for the end of the 2 week NICE guidline which was a shame.

I drove by myself to the local hospital where a specialist breast cancer clinic is run each week.  The consultant reviewed my history, did the physicial breast exam to confirm the lump existed.  I can't remember the order... I think he then did a sonagram because the radiologist for the ultrasound was on holiday.  Next he sent me for a mammogram with instructions...

    Treatment 7 done!

Had my second week of CMF today - one more cycle to go!   No recurrence yet of the terrible sickness week thank goodness - touch wood!

Had a bit of back ache today and a tender spot around the back which has felt better as the day goes on.  I find it difficult with these sorts of things - I surely got occasional aches and pains before all this kicked off, but now it of course gets magnified a hundred fold into something more serious!  I have to tell myself constantly that something concerning would...

    Waiting!!

Seems all i do at minute is too wait for appointments next one on 23 august where they will finally decide how to treat me or not cant wait!

mean while still trying to carry on with life as normal probly in denile, still doing cycle racing and training even though its becoming increasingly hard to maintain a decent level of fitness to compete.

still havnt/cant bring myself to tell all my friends about my condition i guess i dont want to be treated different somehow?

22nd February 2010 - GP confirms the lump

The first day that the GP was open once I was back from Norway I rang up and was given an emergency appointment and able to see my GP personally straight away.

After a bit of a telling off for not having let her know that I had been refused for the MRI scan and UKFOSS trial so she could have tried pushing it further on my behalf, she confirmed the lump and put me on a 2 week referral which she told me is consistent with the NICE guidelines if cancer is suspected.

    Due to her awareness of...

    13th February 2010 - Finding the Lump

It's Saturday and we are due to fly to Norway in a few hours for our final wedding planning trip before the big day in April.

I have regularly checked my breasts every 3-4 weeks for over 10 years so when I found a definite lump in the shower, I knew it wasn't normal for me, far from.  I got my fiance to check it too and he pretty much fainted there and then leaving me standing there with water pouring all over me!

Skip forward, he thinks he is well enough to drive so we got in the...
