colds - here we go again

Why oh why can't I just have a normal cold and get over it in a few days like other people.  Here I am, now in remission with a chance to get out and about again, but now I've had a cold for 10days.  The last twice I've been like this I've ended up with penumonia -  I'm supposed to be going away next week touring in Europe for 5 weeks.  I've got no voice and feel so grotty I will be at the doctors tomorrow in the hope that they'll give me some antibiotics.  two weeks ago when...

    31st March 2010 - D-Day (Diagnosis Day)

Once again my fiance went with me to my appointment.  This time it was at the specialist centre and we were taken into a nice little room with sofas.  I should have twigged something was up when the breast care nurse (BCN) asked if I wanted them to record the session for me (which I said yes to).

My mind was sitting in some isolated place of calm not really taking in the impact of what was being said to me - a very surreal feeling.  When I went back and listened to the CD it was as though I...

    20th - 30th March 2010 - My wait goes on...

This wait didn't feel at all like the last one.  I was surprisingly productive at work and was bouyed by my fiance reminding me that the biopsy results were benign.  Not 'inconclusive', but 'benign' which was a good thing.   So, I began to think I'd be fine and it was all a lot of stress for nothing.

I don't know whether to be glad that the stress wasn't for nothing or not ;)

    19th March 2010 - The Results, not!

The day I had been waiting for came and this time my fiance came with me.  I went for my scans first and there was some confusion over having both a mammogram and ultrasound again as I'd only been booked in for the ultrasound.  The poor nurses ran back and forth and in the end the consultant radiologist made the call that he'd do the ultrasound but I shouldn't have another mammogram so soon.

Once I had the ultrasound it was still an hour before my consultant appointment and the...

Last night i had to go and help out my best friend with some paper work, when i came back the kids were still up and my hubby said the Cerys my youngest who is 4 wanted to talk to me, so we went and had a sit down and she said  "mommy i miss Grandad, i have dreams and i am playing with him and then i wake up and know he isn't here, i will never ever see him again and that makes me sad." Bless her heart, i told her i have dreams like that too and i wake up hoping it was real but that grandad...

    Remission

Well.............. Here's a happier blog post............

Followers will know that I have been away for a few days, for a deserving re-charge of my batteries.

While I was away, Mum had an appointment with the oncologist and they reviewed how the chemo was going.

They said that the cancer in all areas (lung, lymph nodes and adrenal glands) was responding to chemo and actually shrinking! They used the word remission, but I must stress before we get excited that it just means that its under better...

    Karen's Catch-Up #17 - stem cell transplant part 4

So life at home goes something like this

    • First two weeks - mainly in bed. Getting to the toilet takes ages, involves clinging to the walls for support and leaves me knackered. Can't get out of the (Hickman-free!) bath unaided. Still feeling sick - occasionally am sick. Still taking the caphosol just in case for the first week. Stop taking the anti-sickness after 10 days but that was too soon, so started again. am also taking Septrin to hopefully prevent pneumonia setting in - a possible side...
