  • Waiting for RAI
    Got a date for RAI

    Hi all,

Went to Newcastle yesterday to meet an oncologist. Didn't learn much that was new, but I now have a date for RAI - 1 Feb '11. It still seems like a long way off, but at least the whole family can relax and enjoy Christmas without special diets and exclusion zones.

I've been given the meds for the Thyrogen injections (they're in the fridge) so I won't have to come of my Thyroid hormones - which is great, which also means my body will not have slowed down before D-day and the RAI...

I cant describe how i feel apart from absolutley devastated. Update on mum

Well, good news, mum starts her Chemo in a couple of weeks just to tidy things up a bit and catch any remaining cells that may have been missed. Also been told that my Aunt who has cancer of the pancreas is responding well to treatment too. The infection mum had picked up is clearing up with the ant-biotics too and she is sounding more upbeat and positive. I've got to really cook up the courage to go for my blood tests to determine if I've got the gene that has been passed through the family. ...

  • Second time with breast cancer - making decisions
All change - now chemo before surgery

    Hi all,

Thanks for all of your support. I had the results of my MRI scan last week which has shown one main tumour (lobular)  and a couple of extra small ones on the right side. All OK so far on the left side.

To cut a long story short they have recommended I start with chemo first to shrink the main tumour to make surgery easier. I will find out more about this on wednesday, but probably a Taxane of some sort. Hopefully this will start sooner rather then later and I will have surgery sometime next...

    still struggling...

    Hi all.

The stent was fitted on thursday and my husband came home friday afternoon. He is in a lot of pain which he describes as local to the tumour. The stent is a hefty one - 12cm and has been fitted right to the junction of the stomach. Perhaps this is contributing to the pain as the bulk of the tumour is at this sight.

Sunday today and he is still in a pretty bad way, nausea, sickness, hunger and pain as well as a slight temperature.

He really hopes to get some decent nutrition inside and...

  • Long distance treatment!
    Week 2

My lovely aussie partner is on week 2 of treatment for throat cancer in Brisbane, Australia. He went back this summer to sort his life out to move here permanently and was diagnosed in late September/ early October.

We are doing all this at a 12000 mile  distance and its very hard. If it wasn't for Skype I think I would be la la by now.

He is coping really well and despite a dry mouth and lack of taste he's coping. He's just completed week 2 of 7 weeks of radiation and has 2 more chemo doses...

  • Dad, cancer and me
    The sort of end

Dad died at home on Monday 15th November.  He went quietly in his sleep - so like Dad 2 not make a fuss and try to make it easier for Mum!

We've made all the arrangements for the funeral next week and I went to see him today in the Chapel of Rest, he looked so peaceful.

I think it was such a release that he went now before the cancer started to show some really nasty effects.  He had been feeling tired and began saying that it was all an effort but he only had some pain on the morning of the...
