Good Evening! Sorry, bit of a long story!

I feel like I’m here to prematurely (hopefully) but wanted to just ask a few questions.

I’m 42, I’ve always had really heavy bleeding and about 11 years ago I had a vaginal scan which showed thick lining of the womb. I had a biopsy and it was clear. I had a marina cool which didn’t make a difference but never followed it up

About a year ago I started having post intercourse bleeds, cramping mid cycle - I presume when ovulating? Periods became longer (about 12 days) but odd, sometimes blood is black, clots, heavy for parts, other times watery blood discharge.

Had a smear test 6 months ago which was clear.
In past few months I’ve had mid month bleeds as well - more spotting - watery blood?
Anyway, finally saw GP who sent me for an urgent transvaginal scan which I had last Wednesday, GP phoned Friday to say ultrasound has come back suspicious. Hospital called today and they want me to see oncology gynae tomorrow afternoon. All very quick

Just wonder what I should expect will happen at tomorrow’s appointment??

I should add ..... which may be too much information.... I can feel something down there!!! I thought it might be a bit of a prolapse?? I said this to the sonographer but she said I don’t have a prolapse. Not sure what I can feel though x

The gynae will discuss your symptoms and possibly suggest a hysteroscopy for purposes of biopsy.  They will get to the bottom of it.  Stay strong and be positive

Will they do it there and then or book it in for another day? Sorry if that’s a silly question!!

  • Heya,

The Gynae will probably have an internal check of you just so they can eyeball things. However the hysteroscopy needs an appointment booked. So they'll refer you and you'll get an appointment through for it.

A hysteroscopy is where they put a camera up into your womb to have a look around, then they'll take some samples of your lining to send off for testing.

But also, I'm sending you a virtual smack on the back of your hand for not following up with the coil. Sometimes, they need to give you oral progesterone to kick things off and get rid of your lining. Then once it's all clear, you can come off the tablets and be coil only.

As for what you can feel, it could be that your lining is so heavy, everything is pushing downwards where it wouldn't usually had it all been cleared out.

But you're in good hands, and whatever is going on will hopefully be quickly found and sorted for you.

    Lass

    Xx

No such thing as a silly question xx You’re concerned so you are right to check things out for sure. Take it steady...one step at a time. If you need a hysteroscopy they will book it for another time soon hopefully so you can get answers.

Let us know how you get on x It’s a worrying time but you’re being seen by doctors so that’s a really good thing. Obviously we can’t know what will happen specially with your appointment but try to ask questions if you can (maybe write a couple down or take someone with you as there can be lots of info).

It really could be any number of things. Stay in touch with us and I will be thinking of you tomorrow x Stephy x

Update!!! Been seen, internal examination, cervix looks normal.

Lining of the womb thick (13mm) and what looks like a polyp but they won’t know until they biopsy.

Operation will be in the next 2 weeks, the wait continues!!!!

  • Hi Brooke

well done you’re over the first hurdle and the two weeks may come around sooner than you’d like!

If it turns out to be a polyp the vast majority are benign and nothing to worry about.

my experience of it was a group of women waiting together in their dressing gowns for ‘their turn’ in a little day ward which supplied drinks and magazines. Everyone was nervous but extremely supportive of each other.

Women are so good at that. If you get anxious try some breathing exercises as staying as relaxed as you can really does help.

    good luck xxx
