Hi
I had 3 brachytherapy after 25 radiotherapy and 6 chemotherapy. My white cell count and neutrophil came back to the standard range 3 days after the final chemo cycle had finished. I've just shocked to find out that 2 months after finished the brachytherapy and radiotherapy my white cell count, 2.7, and neutrophil, 1.68, are below the standard. I am angry myself for not knowing both treatments would have big impact on blood count. After finished treatments I have started to go to public places without protection and having running eggs etc.
My oncologist will come back to me if he will have any concerns on the blood test results.
Any of you had similar problems post treatments? How long would it take to come back to normal?
Thank you.
Hi Puffin,
I hear you that you’re concerned but I’d like to reassure you. I found I had low white cell counts 6 months after radiotherapy/brachy - for me it was my lymphocytes and neutrophils that were below reference range. My GP told me it was only a minor concern and that I would be retested every 6 weeks till they came up again. I didn’t take any extra precautions - went out as usual, enjoyed runny fried eggs, made sure and ate healthily, and my levels gradually improved over the next 3 months.
Thank you for your reply. Before this happened, I thought everything has come back to normal. Now I even have cancer recurrence in my mind!! It was my GP forwarded my blood test results to my oncologist. I'll see what he will say.
