For a while I have had itching and soreness down below which I tried to treat/ignore as I thought it was mostly due to my health anxiety. About 8 months ago I noticed a patch of what can only be described as mottled brown/light grey skin on my vulva which I hoped would disappear. I finally booked an appointment with my gp who said it was probably hormonal and nothing to worry about. I wasn’t happy with my gps diagnosis so I booked a private appointment with a gynaecologist who has recommended I have a biopsy... I am now really terrified that I have melanoma.
I feel terribly upset/anxious and am struggling to control my thoughts. I had a miscarriage last year and I just feel completely broken by this news. I guess I am looking for advice or reassurance.
Any help would be very much appreciated

I'm sorry to hear how upset and anxious you are waiting for the results of your biopsy. I do understand how that feels and there's really no easy answer. My best advice would be to concentrate on doing things that you enjoy so that you have less time to let your mind wonder to the what ifs. For me that meant indulging my hobbies but for you that might mean throwing yourself into your work, cleaning the house from top to bottom or going out with friends. Basically anything to keep you busy.

One other piece of advice is to stay away from Dr Google. He will always tell you that you have cancer no matter what symptoms you type in!
