VIN3 Surgery

Hi all,

I was officially diagnosed with all 3 grades of VIN back in late March after having 6 biopsies in Feb. Think the VIN 3 is mostly on my inner labia as that's where I'm most ulcerated etc.

I was referred to the local womens hospital to be under the gynaeoncologist. In April I saw his colleague - a specialist in vulval medicine - and she said as it's so widespread that Aldara was the only option right now. However, I saw the gynaeoncologist himself this Tuesday just gone and he wants to do a WLE to remove my inner labia on both sides and a patch near there on either side as he is not only thinks the Aldara cream will not work there but he is worried that there may be cancer given how ulcerated and indurated it is.

I was in complete shock and didn't ask hardly any questions so I will be trying to get in touch with his secretary to see if I can speak over the phone with him to ask the questions I need.

He said I will have two long scars and will look different but shouldn't be affected with sex or having children.

Struggling to process it and its left with insomnia (currently still awake at 3am!).

Needed to find somewhere with people who understood this horrible affliction so I don't feel so terribly alone.

Thanks for reading!

    Hi Redlingua93,

Thanks for sharing your story. This group has helped me over the last  4 months. I was also diagnosed with VIN 3 in March. I had a WLE and I’m using the cream as the margins are positive. I have another procedure on Wednesday to see if I have AIN. Also have another area of concern. It’s a horrible condition to have and I’m really struggling with it.  It’s important you get the opportunity to speak to him again. It’s helpful to write your questions down. I keep a book by my bed as thats when the questions will come! You could try asking some of your questions on here or read previous comments it might help. Take care Jane45 xx

  • Hi Jane45,

Thank you for your reply. Hope the cream is going okay for you and hope your procedure for AIN goes okay. If you don't mind me asking - which procedure is that?

I was told by the gynaecologist who did my biopsies that I probably had AIN too. Then the vulva medicine specialist I saw in April said the same and when I asked how it should be treated, like who I should see, she said technically a general surgeon but her gynaecological team have overseen most patients with AIN and kept an eye on things there and Aldara can be used there.

But when I look online about AIN it says about having an internal examination to make sure that it's not on the inside of the rectum. I have similar warty lesions to those on my vulva on the skin right by the opening and was praying that if it is AIN it's not gone inwards. I regularly have blood on toilet paper when I wipe.

    Thanks once again xx

    Hi,

I’m having a anoscopy basically a camera inside the anus. The consultant told me that they would have a look and they will insert a dye. They may take biopsies. I’ve read if there are areas of concern they can treat with the cream or laser. Where are you living? This hospital is in London it specialises in AIN and VIN.
    Xx

I forgot to mention the HPV vaccine and boosting your immune system can also help. Let’s face it we will try anything when we are going through a crap time. I’m waiting for my GP to get back to me regarding the vaccine if this fails I’ll have to look at getting it done in the private sector  xx

I felt the same way, it was horrible. I’m fine now except for a very dark mole I recently found. I really felt it caused me ptsd because the surgeon was awful. Go with your gut and don’t worry, I am always here to talk I went off a couple years ago after surgery but this group is the best and I would be happy to talk on phone. Xx

  • I just seen the Gynaecologist as I thought that something wasn't right

Been told that it's the scaring from having a radical vulvatomy

I do have what I thought was warts but back in June had a biopsy & it's a cyst so don't think it's a warts also sometimes it can be a scaring I had my operation back January 2018 & I didn’t think that it was that as its only started in the last few months or so

    Best Wishes
