Hi,
I had a diagnosis of Extra Mammary Paget's disease just over a week ago. Having the original lump removed made it really hard to sit, go up and down the stairs and get into the shower.
I've got to have another suspect area removed with large margins, further excision of the original lump to get margins and another area biopsied.
I live on my own with a small child and just trying to sort some practical strategies to help myself recover.
Is there any value in getting a cut out cushion? Spray bottles like post birth ones? What else will help as I'm likely to be extremely sore.
Any advice gratefully received as I'm currently terrified.
Hi Mapleleavesf8a122
So sorry to hear this, I can only say that I didn’t have a cut out cushion but just an ordinary one, I know some ladies said that a rubber ring helped them. I did, and still do use a spray peri bottle, like the post birth ones, and highly recommend it for keeping clean, especially after using the toilet. Also disposable cloths, so super soft, can wet them and use them as wipes after visits to the loo, but great for just patting yourself dry. Just don’t flush them. As for pain, all I was told was keep taking the painkillers. It was just like sitting on a pin cushion for me. It does ease in time. Also I was told not to wear panties to let the air circulate, ok in summer but not too good in winter.
If I can help you further with any questions, then please get in touch.
Try not to overdo things and rest as much as you can, although not easy when you have a small child to look after. I hope you have good friends or neighbours that can support you.
Wishing you the best of luck.
Elaine
I also have Extra Mammary Paget’s disease. Have a look at my profile for the details of my treatment etc. At the moment it seems to be in remission. There is a very good website called myEMPD.com which is helpful because it is so rare and not listed as a type of cancer on many websites. I have not had surgery but know many who have and they use a donut cushion, spray bottles to keep the area clean, sitz baths(if the doctor allows), no underwear or very loose. Healing takes time and resting is good. I hope you have good support and help.
