Hi all,

I've been visiting this site since Dec when I first became concerned I may have TC. Its been very informative and helpful thanks to all the contributing members, so cheers.

I just wanted to share my story and draw on other people's experience..  (I'll try to keep it brief).

Mid Dec 2019 found a small lump on the left testicle. No pain initially but slight dull ache towards the end of Dec. After GP, ultrascans and urology consultant appointment I had the orchiectomy 10th Jan 2020  (literally a day after seeing the consultant - very swift indeed).

23rd Jan 2020 Urologist confirmed TC. 2 weeks later the Oncologist took me through things in more detail. It was a 12mm Classical Seminoma. No vascular invasion and rete testis was also clear. As far as TC diagnosis go, it's as good as I could of hoped for. Although I am being re-scanned following MDT mtg as there was a small abnormality in the small bowel on the opposite side. The Oncologist didnt seem concerned and said their suspicions are low, but wanted to rule anything out. A node in my left groin was also slightly enlarged but again the Oncologist didn't appear to be concerned.

I've been weighing up the adjuvant chemotherapy or surveillance option and have decided - with help from this forum - to take the carboplatin blast. I just feel if anything may have been lingering in my body that wasnt picked up on CT's then this will be sure to get rid. Plus its extra peace of mind when considering reoccurance.

My main concerns at the moment are obviously the abnormality in the small bowel. Has anybody experienced something like this?  And the fact that the left node was enlarged. I occasionally get pain in the lower back / buttock which concerns me but I dont know whether I'm just overthinking?

I'm remaining positive because as it stands everything has been dealt with quickly and efficiently, plus the diagnosis indicates things were caught nice and early.

That said, getting diagnosed with Cancer in itself is daunting and gives you a new perspective.  I sadly lost my dad to Sarcoma in Aug 2019, so I didnt think things could get much worse but then this happened.. talk about kick a man while he's down.

Anyway, thanks for reading. Onwards and upwards!

(Edit - forgot to add I'm 26 years old)

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis and also for the loss of your dad. It must have been an incredibly hard time for you.

I don't have any experience with this type of cancer to share with you but I didn't want to just pass by without saying hello as I'd noticed that you hadn't had any responses yet.

I'm glad to hear that you've found the community informative and I'm sure you'll get support from the members of this group. I hope the bowel abnormality turns out to be nothing but it's good that your team want to check everything out.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Hi

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have updated my profile as you mentioned.

Hope everything checks out well with you.

    Take care

  • Glad to help and thanks for asking after me. Touch wood, everything is going well for me at the moment. I've just had a check-up and the next one will be May. I'll then be going from 3-monthly to 6-monthly checks for the next 2 years.
