Hi all
I have had testicular cancer, I’m in Surveillance.
hope not to add a negative to the forum but I’m notice I have low mood a lot, sex drive isn’t there bad fatigue. Anxiety through the roof.
obviously I would never risk TRT but when k google symptoms it all points to low test. Where as now I am at 11 which is low but acceptable on NHS.
im guessing when your used to being in a physical job having all these things in life. I just feel not myself but I can’t seem to get any help. Anyway if anyone can help please let me know. Thanks in advance
Hi..
Not sure if i can actually help but can offer you where I am… I am about two years post op and chemo, so in surveillance too. After the initial recovery I felt and do still think I feel a bit different. I didn’t have any baseline blood test before treatment as the surgeon said the tumour would alter the results anyway.. So I don’t know what my T was before treatment..
I had a test at the gp about a year after treatment and as I recall I was about 14 T. As you know the nhs low end is really low so I was deemed ok…. I know there are other markers that go along with the basic T value but can’t say I understand them! My concern was what if I was say 3 points higher before treatment- I am bound to feel different….
With not knowing what your T was before cancer it’s difficult to pin down. I think I fatigue more easily, I did/do exercise a fair bit and feel now i am not as strong but it’s subjective…. I can have periods of low mood too but it’s not all the time.
For balance I am an oldie, late 50’’s so have the standard age related stuff going on too which makes it more difficult to,pin down.
i think I am lower than I was pre cancer but have no way of knowing. I am also aware that having cancer messes with your head a fair bit and maybe it’s easy to point at the treatment when it could be something else.
i did consider asking for a referral to an endocrinologist to try and get a better answer but in the end I parked it and have just been getting on with stuff as I am.
I know the medics all say your body compensates and you can manage fine with only one nut but the nhs ranges are so wide I think “we” could be lower than we were before treatment and feel different but clinically we are classed as ok!
I can’t deny I had considered talking to one of the private clinics but was wary of this having had cancer and not wanting to add a synthetic T into me if that might be risky with my history. I haven’t asked my Onc about this, probably as they are all so busy and it’s seems a bit wrong when I mostly ok..
Sorry it’s a bit of a ramble but it may give you a view into someone else who has been on the journey.
good luck
TC
