Dear all,
After 6 months of hormone therapy, my husband's PSA values increased again, and he appears to be a castration-resistant.
In light of this, his doctor recommends the continuation of hormone therapy along with treatment with Abiraterone or Enzalutamide.
However, in view of the inconvenient side effects of these treatments and their small effectiveness in survival, we consider the possibility of not receiving any treatment
Is there any of you that made a similar decision? If so, how do you feel?
Best regards,
Miriam
Hi
I don't have any experience with prostate cancer so can't share experiences with you but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies.
This could be because no one in this group has chosen the no treatment option or simply because they haven't seen your post yet. By replying to you it will bump it back to the top of the page where it can easily be seen again.
Wishing you and your husband all the best with whatever you decide to do.

Hi Miriam, I have been taking Abiraterone for 19 months now and since taking it my PSA has dropped to 1.6 as for side effects of the drug I have only suffered from tiredness an fatigue and every few weeks I have a upset stomach so sit myself close to the toilet for a day or two, these are all I have had, obviously there,s many possible effects but maybe I,m lucky. I have regular checks on kidney an Liver but all is good. Maybe check it out a bit more but I am all for the drug.
Dear Eddie,
Thank you very much for the important information.
We definitely continue to consider all the options we have now.
Wishing you only good health,
Best regards
Miriam
Hi Miriam
my dad tried Abiraterone for 3 months , he didn’t have many side effects but unfortunately it also didn’t work for him, but I have heard good articles about this and Enzalutamide along side hormone treatment. Everybody reacts differently to treatments but I would consider your consultants advice and speak to one of the specialist nurses on Prostrate Cancer Uk , they are really helpful , professional and informative.
Hope this helps
Regards
Debbie

Hi Miriam
I've been on Arbiraterone for 6 years now, psa at start was 205 and gleason score 9. Its now near enough zero, some side effects such occasional mood swings and fatigue but nothing too bad. Without a doubt it has kept me alive and fairly well.
My suggestion would be to give it a go, it dose'nt work for everyone, but when it does it can be very good. If you suffer too much with side effects you can allways come off, or have a break from it.
Best of luck and please stay hopeful.
Dear Joe,
Thank you very much for your warming words.
Best regards
Miriam
Hi Miriam,
My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2013, opted to go on the STAMPEDE trial and was given Abiraterone. Here we are 6 years later with his initial PSA of 150 now undetectable. His cancer had spread to a small area of his bones and lymph glands but now has not progressed any further, long may it continue and we just have to live with the side effects. He also has the standard Prostate jab once every three months. I know everybody is different but we have been blessed with six years +.
Kind regards
Carol
