Hi everyone,
Out of nowhere, like so many it seems, I have recently found out I have prostate cancer.
A PSA test came up elevated (4.6) maybe 6 weeks ago, and it has all gone very quickly from there. No symptoms at first instance (though I am now questioning any twinge and pain) - one GP suggested a test as I was 45. A second test came back much the same. Then an MRI spotted a lesion. A biopsy - not fun! - followed quickly. That was scary, but the urologist was sure (due to age and health and zero symptoms) that it wouldn’t be cancer. But he was wrong. A mixture of Gleason 7 and 8 - so an 8 it is. Pet scan next. It’s very bewildering, unsettling, and frankly terrifying. i’m very lucky to have an amazing wife and parents, and an employer who is being very supportive, but I guess I’m just looking for anyone who has been through this - and ideally has some positive news to share. I feel very alone at my age.
Hello, welcome to the club no one wants to be a member of, sorry to find you here.
You are not alone, there are a few of us here on the younger side, I was diagnosed at the age of 49 with Gleason 9.
With a PSA 4.6 it sounds your cancer was caught very early, you will have lots of treatment options, most likely with curable intent.
Feel free to ask about anything and everything, or even just rant, we're a friendly bunch, and the folks here understand what you're going through.
The time from initial diagnosis until the start of treatment is the most stressful, It does gets better.
Hope this helps
G
Hi Smac43feff you are young to be here but lots of guys don’t get such an early diagnosis so at a later stage things are more difficult to control. The PET scan is routine to check no spread but with your stats that is most unlikely. Please come back with any questions as you progress.
Best wishes, David
Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
Hi
firstly you are not alone its a terrible feeling when you have been given the news...but if you read my intro you will see so many of your resukts match my own. I can tell you i was terrified. The biopsy was just horrible i had 13 samples taken.
The result of all this was i had a full radical prostate removal. The decision on the type of treatment was just as painful. I have had the surgery at the Royal Marsden cheslea. i am on my 2nd week after operation recovery with catheter bag removed one week ago.
i am feeling well and am back to my normal self without all the worries that gave me sleepless nights
happy to talk if you would like
john
Hello Smac43feff
A warm welcome to the group from me too, although I am so sorry to see you joining us. The first post from L1m sums everything up. All I would add is:
* May of us have documented our personal journey - we are all different but you can read these by clicking on our personal avatar or user name.
* Feel free to ask any questions - nothing is too trivial and someone here will have "been there - done that" and you will get honest answers. Just stay away from Dr Google.
Best wishes - Brian.

Smac43feff, you are never alone.
We are here to help and guide and hold your hand as you navigate tricky pathways.
Ask what you like because someone here has been there and done it before you.
If you haven’t already you can fill in your stuff on a profile page which is top left, a greenish circle with a sofa chair within. If you start putting you’re medicals on there we can then understand you better.
Welcome is not the word to use but you’re here now and I’m sorry for that. Get some hankies, boxes of them. Don’t be afraid to cry in happiness or not. To relieve yourself of that pain inside is necessary.
So here we are to be there any time you need someone. This is a fantastic forum of ladies and gentlemen who need and help each other as we navigate with you.
Good luck
14mm - which my research suggests is worryingly large.
The urologist was confident that the low PSA was in my favour, so I am clinging to that.
Thank you so much for replying so fast. Your supportive words made my wife cry.
and thank you to everyone on this group. I wish none of us were here, but hearing from all of you has helped. I will definitely be back with questions and ranting!
Smac i had 2 lesions one at 4 oclock and one at 7 oclock but PSA was low and the tumours contained.
Mr Charlesworth at Royal Marsden was absolutly brillant taking my calls over uncertainity and concerns and walking me through the options.
talking is the best advise i can give this forum is just so good for support and hearing first hand what people ha e been through ..
stay positive always
Actually mine was 13mm just before I started treatment, it was getting near the gland edge so could be worth checking that , is it getting near the gland edge or not. Not Def that it is even at 14mm
If it is then after the next scan hopefully u can start on HT to stop it in its tracks until RT can start
Steve
