Hello
My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer last week, Gleeson 3/4, level 2. His consultant suggested HIFU therapy. I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who has had this treatment and their opinion on it please?
Thank you :)
Firstly welcome to the lovely group who are able to answer any questions you have. We all have an experience with something and sadly I don’t know anything about HIFU so I’ll leave it to the others.
I am however here to help and support you in other ways so I will see you again sometime.
Until then, I wish you both well.
This is a couples disease so when you need help and support please remember to use us.
Good luck
Hi Maple
I assume PSA not too high and when u say level 2 you are talking about staging meaning in that tumour is contained within the gland.
I have read good things about Hi Fi over the years and there are some on here who have had the HiFu, perhaps they will post on here.
Best wishes
Steve
Hi, you may also wish to look into brachytherapy, please see my profile
Hi - he was told that brachytherapy was not appropriate for him, we didn't really get a clear answer as to why it isn't appropriate which is frustrating. It could as simple as it's not offered in our local area? Maybe we should ask for a second opinion. He was only given options of prostate removal, hormone therapy or HIFU.
Hi Maple.
I have just joined this group and not yet said hello, but I saw your post.
I had HIFU on 4th February this year.
I will add more info, but in answer to your question about why Hifu and not brachytherapy or Cryotherapy or NanoKnife it is all todo with the location of the cancer in the prostate.
I turned 55 just recently. I had a psa score of 7.14 on 17th December. I was given 3 options for treatment active surveillance, HIFU or radical.
I would recommend joining the webinar for Hifu my nurse arranged it. It was online and my wife joined. It was very useful.
I will be honest my first thought when told I had it was to have the prostate removed, but having done a lot of research I decided upon Hifu.
I ended up going private only because I had cover and it meant I would have it sooner and it also freed up a nhs place.
im happy to answer any questions if it helps. I am open book. ️
