Hi, this is my second post in this community, I hope you are all doing okay? My husband has prostate cancer, 3+4 score of 7, grade 2.
We have seen two consultants and are now at a decision making point, based on your experience what would be better? Any help, guidance, info would be greatly appreciated! Best wishes, Angela
Hi Angela
Hi Fu is definitely a good alternative to surgery so long as the tumour is prostate confined.
Success rates are similar but with potentially less side effects or/and less severity.
There are two kinds of hi Fu. Focal and whole prostate.
Focul can just focus on one area in the prostate while whole prostate obviously does just that. covers the whole gland.
In my mind covering the whole prostate sounds better in case there are any rogue cells lurking in nooks and crannies.
Best wishes
Steve
Hi Angela. I have Pca and although my psa is relatively low at 3.2 and I have been on active surveillance since last August, a recent scan showed I have a 3+4 tumour about 7 mm long. The problem is that it is right up against inside of capsule, so early treatment is recommended. I also have 5 areas of very small low grade cancer Gleason 6, but the consultants don’t seem concerned about them.
I had 67 Biopsies done on the NHS to map my prostate, but they could not see the Gleason 7 tumour on the mri scan. I paid private and went to London and had a 3T scan done. Apparently this is twice the power of the NHS scan, and sure enough they could see the tumour clearly and Prof Emberton in London recommends I have it treated by focal therapy. Either Nanoknife or HIFU. He said I could potentially try to get this done on the NHS as they can do it at UCH in London. I am trying to get a referral at present to Get it done in London.
Everyones case is different. I have done lots of research...... and I am opting for HIFU for now. It will not treat all of my prostate but I personally am trying to minimise the risk of side effects. Best wishes. Neil.
