Well it's taken me a while to make the decision to have Nanoknife treatment for my 3+4 prostate cancer, but after studying the possible side effects of nerve sparing robotic surgery which there seems to be an element of 'see what nerves we can spare when we get in there's' I have decided to not take the chance.
So I found Princess Grace Hospital in London that carry out Nanoknife treatments and I am attending a 3D Mir session in October (cost ÂŁ1000) but the NHS Mir scans I sent to the hospital were poor resolution and the treatment needs to have pin point accuracy.
When I mentioned I had been referred for surgery I was told it is totally unnecessary.
Now this treatment is private and the costs could be close to ÂŁ16000 but if my prostate is in tact with no nerve damage and no side effects, I would opt for that rather than change my car.
Will keep you posted on progress etc.
Hi Russell, I'm not having the surgery full stop. Here in Ireland the best surgery is robotic one and doesn't involve the nerve sparing that you had, they may as well yank it out with a monkey wrench. My oncologist couldn't get me in quick enough to do it and didn't seem to give a toss about my quality of life afterwards, it was all about the money. Anyway I'll be contacting the Princess Grace hospital in London and a few others to figure out my best option.Hopefully I'll have sorted early in the new year.
Thanks

Hi Zecko
I know this is a difficult time so I've dug up my notes to explain my history and experience:
PSA of 9 resulted in physical examination by a nurse practitioner who wanted me to have a biopsy there and then. Fortunately my wife had listened to a programme on Radio 4 where professor Mark Emberton had said to only have TARGETED biopsys following an MRI - so I refused.
20.10.17 had MRI
20.12.17 had targeted biopsy
20.02.18 Met with Mark Emberton for results which revealed Gleeson 4 + 3. He advised nanoknife
26.03.18 Meeting with NHS consultant who advised prostate removal.
10.04.18 Further meeting with mark Emberton to agree go ahead with Nanoknife - cost approx £13K including follow-up MRI.
20.04.18 Nanoknife op. In and out in a day. No problem at all.
27.04.18 Post Nanoknife MRI
01.05.18 Post op meeting with Mark Emberton. ' Post treatment scan showed truly excellent coverage'.
14.08.18 Follow up meeting with Mark Emberton ' Very good result - follow up with 6 monthly PSA and 12 monthly MRI'.
Aug 2018 PSA 0.5
Feb 2019 PSA 0.6
15.07.19 Annual MRI
16.07.19 Meeting with Mark Emberton - MRI scan all clear
July 2019 PSA 0.8
I am so glad I had nanoknife rather than prostate removal. This procedure is relatively non-invasive compared to removal and I have not suffered any long term side effects. The most scary thing was peeing what appeared pure blood about a week or so after the operation. They had warned me about this but I expected it to happen within a day or two of the op.
I can wholeheartedly recommend Professor Mark Emberton - he was absolutely brilliant from start to finish.
Hope this helps
Very best wishes
Dave
Thanks Dave, that's the kind of story I want to hear and I'm delighted for you.Was that at the Princess Grace?
Yes it was at Princess Grace and they were superb.
Any other questions don't hesitate to ask me.
Dave
Ok Dave I will do and thank you very much. I find this community a great source of comfort.

Hi Dec,
Ok sorry I never new that was the situation in Ireland. The nano knife seems to be the best option.
And I was also due to see Professor Mark Embleton so thst sounds like the way to go.
Sorry if I have confused you ,I just wanted to say that the surgery doesn't always have to be as bad a people think .
Best wishes
Russell
