Hi ladies. I’m 23 (24 in less than a month) and I was diagnosed last week Thursday  (2nd July) with ovarian cancer as suspected. I’m now waiting for surgery. I’m expecting a call tomorrow with a date. My tumour is on my left ovary and is 15cm in diameter. They think it is a germ cell tumour and will stage and grade me when they go in for surgery. I’m a little scared. I have had plenty of operations before but never such large incisions. (They have told me i will  be cut straight down from just above my belly button down to my pubic bone). I’m trying to be strong for everyone in my family as they have all taken it pretty hard (as to be expected) but it’s getting hard now. I didn’t realise just how big 15cm is until I took out a measuring tape last night Cry any advice for before/after surgery? How did it go? Did you need chemo after? I have been told I will only know if I need chemo after once they have done the surgery  xxx

Hi @KinberleyJane89 yes I was give 29th of July but after fasting and staying in hospital all day it was cancelled due to another patients major complication, so my new date is August 13th. Can I ask, did you need chemo after surgery? xxx

How awful for you having to wait even longer - that happened to me with keyhole surgery but I was just about to leave the house and they phoned to cancel. I needed chemotherapy but only because my tumour ruptured, so they wanted to attack any cells that may still be in me. However, I turned it down as I was diagnosed with a rare tumour that chemo had a really low chance of even working on. I had 14cm tumour and they removed it with surgery, I was in hospital for 5 days after and then recovered at home, I was off work for 5 weeks in total. I’m hoping they’ve caught your cancer early enough that you won’t need chemo and it’ll be surgery only. If you want to chat more, let me know and I can give you my details as I know what it’s like to go through this feeling like nobody understands at times xx

    Hi Sc

Just read your post, had diagnosis in Nov 2019 and had tumour removed on Jan 2020 yes that wound is awesome never been in hospital before this diagnosis, cancer free after a 9 hr operation, left hospital 6 days later, have had chemo 6 rounds which I just completed, having infusions to bump up the immunity, also refining to work this week, taking one day one appt at a time, there are lots of hiccups with hair loss etc but loads of help to help you be comfortable, I don't find it easy to reach out and ask for help but have learned to do that, and nothing seems to much for the oncology or cancer team, I hope all goes well in your operation, and the chemo, loads of support on here and ovacome site as well and loads of people on both sides that can support and let you know your not alone in your fight.

  • Hi There, I had open surgery to remove my omentum and full hysterectomy 4wks ago. At first i didnt want to look at my wound but once the staples came out i was brave and looked at it. The scar is really neat and healing well. Once its a bit better i am going to use bio oil on it. You will be in safe hands and like you i was absolutely terrified about OP. Everyone was amazing from theatre assistants, nurses, theatre staff etc and my 6 days in hospital was a positive experience. I to was only told about what they had seen on the CT scan and that they wouldnt know exactly what else was going on until they got on for a look. Everything will be sent for biopsy and you will get results within a week of your surgery. I am having 18wks of chemo in the day unit. 1 day every 3wks. You are young and that in itself is a good thing. You tend to get better and heal quicker. I know you will be worried but before you know it you will be all done and on the road to recovery. Please try not to worry. Hope it all goes well xxx

Thanks ladies, recovery is going ok, but in true Sarah style a spanner was thrown in the works when I was Hospitalised over the weekend for a blood clot in my lung Cry I’m still waiting for my biopsies back and now getting nervous as I phoned today to see if they were ready and got told that they weren’t yet because after initial tests they required additional and more complex testing my scar however is healing VERY well! (Pic attached) I feel that’s good healing for just under 2 weeks anyway RoflSee no evil xxx
