Hi

Had my first chemo on friday and yesterday and today I can barely move and the pain is really bad

Has anyone got any suggestions please x

  • Hi Tezza,

I too get this aching pain 2days after chemo, just had my 5th of 6, and its been the same for a few of us, my chemo drugs are Docetaxel/carbo but Taxol has the same aching effect.  I find good old paracetamol and a long soak in radox really helps, it will pass after a few days, I am pretty much back to normal by 7-10 days, good luck for the rest of your treatment,

    love

    Hi Tezza,
I'm exactly the same. Bad pain in legs and feet and very week leg muscles. Couldn't sleep with the pain.

My GP prescribed Co-drydomol but it made me really ill so stopped taking them. When I spoke to the hospital they suggested next time I take the steroid tablet for longer as I only took in the morning day 2 and 3. I'm going to check with my Oncologist tomorrow first as there is the additional risk of taking steroids. I will let you know how I get on but of course you should take advise from your own team. Don't just suffer.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Tezza,

Yes, same for me - I’m on paclitaxel, carboplatin and Avastin. I get the horrible muscle and joint aches and pains in my legs and feet from around day 2 to day 6 each cycle but then they generally ease off. I find it worse when I sit down in the evenings and in bed at night it keeps me awake. Painkillers help (but be wary of paracetamol masking any potential fever) - my oncologist suggested Voltarol gel which does help a little as well. The first time was the worst as I thought the pains might persist for the whole treatment period but now I know it’s only for a few days each time I can cope with it.

    Best wishes, Nell xxx

  • Hi there,

Have you spoken to your Oncologist, after my first lot of chemo 4 years ago I was in agony with my legs,it felt as if I was being stabbed with a knife. The Oncologist reduced the amount of paclataxol by 20% and I was fine after that.

I am now due to start chemo this week as i have a recurrence,so i will see what happens this time. Although one of the drugs is different this time.

    Take care,

    Georgette x

  • Dear Tezz65

l started chemo on the 10th June '20 Carbo/taxol and like you suffered with leg pains also stabbing pains in my groin up my vagina and rectum. Also had sensation of restless legs  and pins and needles in my feet in the evening of days 3/4.

lt wasnt unbearable but the chemo ward had asked me to report all side effects, so l did. They said it was important not to suffer in silence.

Three things l found helped, upping my painkillers, keeping my feet toastie warm and also keeping a journal of symptoms etc.

On days 12/13 I was really depressed although l couldnt put my finger on exactly why and then snapped out of it on day 14.

Today is day 16 and l feel absolutly fine and whether or not  depression is one if the side affects I'm not sure.

Good luck with your treatment and recovery x
