well that went rather well, after a bumpy start.. PEG decided to give off a pink discharge after cleaning 1st thing.. swiftly cleaned up and loosened a tad by radiology head.. a bit of a pressure sore going on, with it being too tight..managed to get Flamagel RT, after explaining my situation, so I can get that without going through GP now.. most helpful, I must admit.. they're working to arrange my start times to fit with my daughter giving me transport.. but a bit of a sore throat though, not helped by my wife deciding to make candles, to while away the time... the smell of resin is just killing me.. oh hum.. apart from that I feel good, in a good mood. ready to eat ham + cheese omelette and chips. plenty of drugs to take tomorrow and next 3 days, and some anti sickness, if I need them... so, onward and upward.. pleased with today, I must admit.
oh, and afterwards, on the way out, I had the opportunity to try something, the name of which escapes me now.. but you stick this cling film covered 'lollipop' on your tongue for 1 min, under your tongue for 1 min, then you place this disc like thing on along your jaw, and lips, all for 1 min.. it is hoped that it reduces the after effects... we shall see, and hopefully I'll get the name tomorrow..

can only manage liquid/ soft now.. no lumps
Ah....then Turi's suggestion is spot on. I used to eat Ready Brek which is similar. You could try semolina and I'm sure you can buy ground rice still

Hi, I ate a lot of Baxters Super Good Bone Broth - it has barley in it which made it feel a bit more substantial. Also I found pea soups good (fresh ones from M&S and Tesco) as they felt thick but still easy to swallow. Mashed potato worked for me with extra butter and milk/cream (though lost the taste after a while). I know it's pitiful but I also ate loads of super noodles (and still do)... was able to swallow them easily and felt like I was having proper food! I didn't do so well with porridge - not sure why. Adding rice to soup was also nice and again bulked it out a bit. I was lucky in that I managed roast dinner (well, beef absolutely shredded and veggies mashed up) most weeks throughout and post treatment. Weirdly, I couldn't eat gravy (taste was awful - it's still not great) but picked out fattier pieces of meat to shred which made for easy swallowing.
Another strange one but I was also able to eat haggis for a while! Easy to swallow and quite tasty. Sometimes had it with a soft boiled egg which was quite filling! It is a bit spicy though so had to drop it after a while. Macsween do a nice little pack which I probably ate over 2 sittings as could only do small portions at a time…

Hi Loz
I know exactly what you mean about needing more bulk. I can only eat very soft food but mainly puree as a result of my ops. It is a long term issue so I have had to figure out what to eat that has bulk or as you say you are very hungry all the time. I have found buying a ready made frozen shepherds pie (or something similar) mixed with steamed veg and baked beans all put in the nutribullet and blitzed to the right consistency works a treat. You can blitz it so it is really smooth and add full fat milk to get it to the consistency you can manage. I have found this fills me up plus the benefit of it being quite healthy.
The other thing I have found is weet bix really softened with a bit of hot water and full fat milk or even moistened with Fortisip and then mixed with pureed fruit (find fruit that is not acidic, I often use tinned peaches, apricots to save messing about with having to cook the fruit) and then add in either yoghurt with no bits in it or custard or even icecream. It all adds to the bulk.
Another one I have found that has bulk is a slice of sponge cake cut into small pieces and moistened with milk or Fortisip mixed with pureed fruit and custard or yoghurt. It all mushes down into a pureed consistency quite nicely and is easy to eat.
Hope you find something that works for you. Keep in mind that the tastes will all diminish and even become quite horrible after a while so you just have to put your head down and eat what you can at that point.
Best wishes
Lyn
