Dry mouth post neck dissection

Hi I had a partial  glossectomy and neck dissection. I’m sept ‘25 but luckily didn’t need any radiotherapy or chemo . I’ve had a dry mouth since I’m guessing from some kind of damage to the salivary glands but it seems to have got worse recently. Last night I kept waking up with it and my tongue was so dry it felt cracked to touch. I drink lots of water in the day and have a glass by my bed at night. Anyone else experience this and does it tend to improve  with time? I’ve got my next check up in 2 weeks so will mention it then

  • Yes I had that from my earlier surgeries.  It did not get better for me and significantly worse when I had CRT some 4 years later. Ask for some Biotine to use at night. It's on prescription and coats the mouth to stop it drying out so rapidly during the night.  I apply it 2 or 3 times during the night.

  • Thanks for the advice

  • I had a partial glossectomy beginning of February and neck dissection 10 days ago.  Same here. My tongue feels as if I have burnt it and I just drink tea all day long - getting used to waiting until it is cool and then slurping down quickly. Hoping this does improve.
