I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer 10 years ago.  At that time the gland plus some lymph nodes in the neck were removed and I successfully underwent radioactive iodine ablation.  I had a neck scan last week.  The results are in and I have cancer again in the thyroid bed and it seems to have spread to my lymph nodes in the neck, stage 3.  I mentioned that my neck clicks and will now have a CT scan to check my bones.  I’m now paranoid about where this may have gone. I thought after 10 yrs free, that was it and this has just shocked me.

Has anyone been in this position with thyroid cancer returning in the thyroid bed or elsewhere?  I’m not sure what to expect or think right now.  How controllable is this?

Additionally, are there any discussion groups specifically for this type of reoccurrence?

  • Sorry to hear of your problems Glorysun, going through a recurrence myself so know a bit how you feel. Can't answer your questions though I'm afraid, there is actually a group specifically for thyroid cancer here, maybe you'll get more help if you join there. Wish you all the best though.

  • Good evening Glorysun, sorry to hear that the cancer has returned, you are right in believing that after ten years all would be good but unfortunately you can never take your eye off it. I had neck clicks before my surgery and during recovery but it was nothing sinister so hopefully, you are the same. I have not had any dealings with the thyroid as my cancers were else were in the head and neck but I had quite a few lymph nodes removed during my first operation. In the end, I had three operations and have been cancer-free since 2010 with no issues to report, I'm fairly sure they will be able to control it or give it their best shot. Wishing you all the best for the CT scan their plan of attack once the results are in, please re-post if you need further help or advice, take care.
