MRI scan

Yesterday I had the all clear on my first mri scan after radiotherapy. I’m so pleased and relieved. I know I still got a long way to go but this is another milestone completed.
I am still having problems with eating and still having 3 fortisips a day because I’m not taking in the calories I need for the day. My apetite is poor and as everything in my mouth feels heightened I find I’m chewing/biting on food unnecessary. Like oats and pips, lentils. And holding food in my mouth a while before swallowing. I don’t know if it’s all in my head or what, it’s weird. Does anyone else have any eating problems?

  • Hi eating is tough - tougher than they tell you - mash potato is easy - especially with gravy - timing it with pain meds is key for me as well. Pasta is good try less grains? Mealtime is a  battle but the diflam spray and mouth washes help

  • How far along are you  ? It's about five months isn't it. If "bits" are irritating your mouth try smoother food. Pasta is good and you can vary that so much with different sauces. How did your throat settle down? You were having trouble with swelling if I remember correctly

  • Hi i finished my treatment in Sep.like you im still having difficulties eating..but on a plus I can manage a slice of bread with butter ( not seeded bread ) dunked in tinned chicken soup lol my taste buds are terrible but at least its something....many congrats on your cleat mri scan xx

  • Yes it’s been 5 months after radiotherapy. I seen my consultant yesterday and told him again about my uvula and soft pallet has dropped and having trouble with tablets and food and mucus being stuck behind it and I have to heck to get it out. Plus I thought I had excess mucus and been hecking that out and he told me no not to do that but swallow it as hecking it out is aggravating my throat and mouth. So today I have been drinking more water to get rid of it by swallowing. He is also referring me to someone as he thinks my eating problem could be phycological, which I am tending to agree with him

  • Thanks Susie, I have eaten toast with tinned tomatoes and enjoyed that except the crust and the pips lol. I’m eating but my trouble is I’m sick of mashed potato and soup. I’m not enjoying food at the moment, it’s like the same thing all the time. I’ve tried curry and rice and pastas and bolognese but have trouble with the rice and minced meat. It’s so weird

    1. I totally understand what you mean food is incredibly boring im very limited to what I can have..I love spaghetti bol but cannot eat the minced beef either in fact I cannot eat any meat at all..I stLaughingl have ulcers at the side of my tongue and unfortunately I also have Osteomyelitis which doesn't help..I have had ready break and my partner partner brought me some Farleys risks lol I laughed but tLaughingn tried it with warm milk lol Laughing it was a nice change lol I wish I could have a curry but my mouth and tongue are super sensitive and I cant cope with anything with even a hint of spice :( Disappointed
