Hey Everyone
Ive been using the cold cap for my last 5 cycles and although there is a good bit of hair loss I have enough to get by, which I’m very grateful of. The docetaxel somehow seems to be worse than the EC was
Anyway, I’m wondering if anyone else is finding that their existing hair is like wire? It is so dry and obviously I’m trying to be gentle with it but does anyone have any tips for improving the condition of it? I think I might need to resort to my wig it’s looking so bad.
Sorry for the vanity! I’m struggling to feel good about myself. Have a bad rash/acne on my face from the pertuzumab and am trying to stay positive.
Hope everyone else’s week is going well x
Hi Beyoncepower
You're not being vain at all! I think it's important that we are able to feel good about ourselves.
Not having had chemo I haven't had this problem with my hair but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Replying to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussions list where it'll hopefully be seen by someone who's had the same experience.

Hi Beyoncepower
I too am using the cold cap and having good results but I have noticed my hair getting a bit rough and flyaway. I have been using only a gentle shampoo on it but used conditioner the other day as I was fed up with looking like Boris Johnson! I haven't had a wig as yet.
Hi there Beyoncepower
I used the cold cap but got so annoyed with my hair that I shaved it off anyway. Mine grew back curlyish with the texture of a border terrier's fur so yep another chemo gift. I do find that its getting less curly as time goes by but the texture seems constant (finished chemo Dec 2019). I'd suggest the obvious, intensive conditioners/hair masks - with natural products...that said I don't bother with anything other than conditioner & leave-in conditioner, I do have it cut quite short ,luckily suits me just fine.
If, like me, you have a fab hairdresser get that appointment booked (I'm in 17th April as am looking more Boris J as each day passes), they will be well placed to advise re suitable style & products. And be glad that very few people will have decent hair at the moment so you're in good company.
I also got some corking zits during chemo & tea tree oil applied neat saw them off.

Hi Beyoncepower
I didn't use cold cap and was on EC so came out of chemo a liberated baldy lol. Yes my new hair came back curly and wiry but I used a specialist shampoo and conditioner Nioxin . So hair settled quily and grew fast . I was also advised to use Aqueaus cream available just about everywhere and really cheap . Looks a bit like brylcream
use before shampoo massage in then rinse off then shampoo as normal . You can also massage into scalp and leave .
Hope this helps
Hi Beyoncepower
I went every few weeks to my hairdresser and she kept it tidy and no charge but that’s not an option just now
my hair got a bit thin and wispy and yes it upset me , but I carried on and treated it very gently . It will feel strange and a bit brittle but I don’t regret keeping my hair . I wore my wig a couple of times . I looked in my magnifying mirror every morning looking for growth it will slowly get back to a new normal - mine is white and very shiny ! I loved the curls that few first but didn’t last long and back to straight .
I do tend to be thinner hair at the front just like my mum before me , I’m actually trying a new shampoo and it feels lovely and not chemically, if you look up .
watermanshair.com brilliant reviews , the couple who own the company are now multi millionaires - they were on rich holiday /,poor holiday on tv .
all takes time . I lost tiny hairs every hair wash and once my husband was putting cream on my back - the look of horror when he looked at his hands and they were all hairy ! I burst out laughing , the poor man was frightened that he had upset me , when I laughed - he said will I get the hand held diyson !!!
Hope you keep well and you will get your new hair in time .
love

Hello
thank you for your reply.
I do feel ridiculous complaining I am so grateful to have some hair be it thin and wiry! With every Docetaxel I feel more coming out and my eyelashes are only just hanging in there too.
I’ll have a wee look at the shampoo you recommend, thank you for that. I know it’ll come back in eventually, it’s just when you look in the mirror sometimes it’s hard to be positive. But the sun is shining so I’m going to try and all these thoughtful reply’s really do help.
Just read your profile too, good to know your journey and I hope you’re doing well xx
Ha! I feel like the dark haired version of Boris! I think my existing hair could easily stand up on its on! We have to laugh don’t we x
Hello Northerner
Ooh fab, I will have a look at Nioxin, I’m thinking I’ve heard of that somewhere else.
I think once I’ve finished chemo (will it ever end.....) and my hair starts to come back I can give the massage a go, great advice. Hope all good with you and you’re enjoying some sunshine today. Joy in the small things xx
I too have been very close to chopping my sad existing hair off, but I’m so close to the end I’m gonna carry on.
You’re right it’s not long until the hairdressers open and I can get some advice.
Ive just had my second round of pertuzumab so waiting to see if my skin reacts again, and I’m guessing it will. I’ll give the tee tree a try, as it’s nice to use a natural product if you can, great suggestion thank you.
Dear Beyoncepower
might be worth buying or get prescription for VISCOTEARS , brilliant eye gel to keep your eyes moist - doesn’t fog over ! Your eyes May water but as the pharmacist told me ,after chemo you might have watery eyes but your tears are weak . This gel is lovely . Some pharmacies sell it for about £2.99 but Boots is £5 + for some reason !
take care
