I’m due to start tamoxifen soon, I’ve read a lot about side affects and feel I am prepared for the worst! Would love to hear some if your experiences of Tamoxifen, good and bad. I’ve also read things about the best time of day to take the tablet, morning or night! Crazy that my biggest worry is gaining weight, after 2020 And lockdowns I’ve put so much weight on already!!
Hi
Hmm - the lovely Tamoxifen. I've been on it for 4 years - I have put on some weight but then my lifestyle has changed since cancer - if I eat properly and exercise as much as I should then I don't find it too bad. Before diagnosis I worked long hours, multiple jobs and was always running round doing extra things - I don't do that now so it makes sense I would put on weight. I know other people on it who are very slim so I think it's as much lifestyle as anything else. I do get a lot of hot flushes - worse with some brands - but that would have come with menopause anyway. I'm happy to trade having periods for having hot flushes. One of the things that often comes up is brands - lots of us find we are better with one brand than another and your GP can always put a brand request on your prescription - some pharmacies are good about it, some not and it isn't always possible to get the brand you request but if you find you are having bad side effects then it might be worth trying a different brand.
I always take mine in the morning because if I didn't I'd forget, so can't comment on that.
You can always join in the Walking back to Happiness thread for motivation to exercise
Good luck with the Tamoxifen

Hi there, I started Tamoxifen on Christmas Day, I’m usually such a calm person, but even deciding on a time to take it made me have anxiety!! Anyway after initially changing my mind from taking it at lunchtime to the morning and setting my alarm so I remembered, I’m getting into a routine with it, as my biggest fear is forgetting to take it. No side effects as yet, but it’s early days and as I’m always such a cold bones, I could probably take a flush or too better than someone else! I’m also exercising and following a super healthy diet! A xx
