hi all,

I had a bilateral mastectomy 4 weeks ago with a DIEP donor site to do the reconstruction. The surgery was long, 14 hours and hit a few complications

. I'm doing well didn't use any pain relief while in hospital or since I've been home, but have had to use it to manage the excrutiating pain in my foot.

I had a cannula in my foot,  and had my blood pressure taken when in hospital from that leg which they have suggested might be causing the problem but I'm concerned it's nerve damage. The pain varies, but gets worse at night. It is a stabbing pain in the top on my foot , accompanied by numbness, tingling and sudden involuntary movements.

Has anyone else experienced this. In particular, I'm keen to know if it passes and how you managed the pain?  Many thanks all and have a good tuesday

  • Hi,

I do vividly remember coming to post mx with implant and yelling ‘my leg’, a couple of times, and yes I guess they do use the blood pressure cuff on a leg rather than an arm, I guess they like both arms clear for comparison while doing the surgery.

My problem was that it was on the leg which has a bad varicose vein so was really painful!

My advice would be to contact BCN and your GP about this and see what they suggest. Hope it eases very soon, don’t forget a DIEP is a long operation....

  • I'd contact the hospital,  add it could be nerve damage,  or it could be a little clot which needs checked.  Poor you! X

  • I agree with ......now is the time to get this checked because all the symptoms you describe are the same as I regularly experience in my feet which have been tested for nerve damage. Several nerves were permanently destroyed. This was not caused by the operation so I don't know if that is possible but you are certainly describing the problems I often experience.

I hope it can be sorted soon and you start your recovery. Take care.

    Love Karen
