Hi everyone this is my first post on this forum. I am 54 years old and was diagnosed with DCIS in September after calcifications were found on my annual mammogram. I had WLE surgery 3 weeks ago with excellent results, clear margins and only a tiny amount of DCIS in one duct (most of it had been removed during the vacuum biopsy). Receptors are ER8 and PR8 and my van Nuys score is 6. I do have family history of breast cancer but it is not thought to be BRAC1 or 2. As I am considered very low risk of recurrence radiotherapy is not being advised but I can choose to have 5 sessions of full breast radiotherapy if I want to. I forgot to ask the consultant whether this would mean that I can’t have radiotherapy on that side again in the future if I do have a recurrence but will go back and ask that this week. I am also planning on trying letrozole.

Has anyone had to make the decision whether they have radiotherapy or not? I’m not sure what I should do.

  • Hi there,

You can only have it the once usually.  You have high scores for ER and PR so the letrozole should work well.  There are threads about which brands as it can make a big difference,  but most people find Cipla the worst so try to avoid that one! X

Thank you for the feedback. I will check the brand x

  • Welcome but sorry you find yourself here.  I was diagnosed with 11mm of high grade DCIS in June 2015.  I had surgery then 15 sessions of radiotherapy (was standard then).  Now I just have annual check up.  If you click on my band you can see my story xx

Hi Lizzy. How are you? I'm in the same position, trying to decide if to go for radiotherapy or not following DCIS, 2 surgeries for 15mm DCIS, intermediate grade. Had a bit of a to and fro chat with the consultant today leaving me quite confused. Let us know. Take care. R
