Hi everyone,
I’m on just looking for a bit of info really. For the past month my left nipple as been itchy - the itch comes and goes so it’ll maybe feel itchy for a day or two and then nothing for a day or two - it doesn’t bother me at night. I have noticed no changes in appearance thus far. I contacted my GP who gave me a breast exam but didn’t detect any lumps and she sent me away with Clotrimazole cream and a referral to the breast clinic. The cream has not worked and along with the itch my breast now feels tender to the touch (press) particularly on my left side at my ribs - sort of where your bra band would be if that makes sense - not quite under the arm. I’m going to contact my GP on Monday to tell her the cream hasn’t worked and if there is anything else I should try whilst I wait for my apt. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced itch that comes and goes? I’m aware of Paget’s disease and IBC and feel that speed would be of the essence if this were the case.
Any information or advice would be greatly received as I am super worried and stressed - I am 39 with a 6 year old daughter xx
Hi
Sorry that you have had to find yourself here . You're in the 'waiting and wondering' period at the moment, which really is the second worst phase. The worst phase is actually being told you have cancer and waiting for the treatment plan. However, at the moment, there really is nothing that can be done expect wait for your appointment and again, it's waiting for your results of this appointment. I know it's pointless to say, but in the meantime because there is absolutely nothing you can do expect wait, but try not to worry. I was lucky, inasmuch that I got a callback from my 1st ever mammogram and wasn't worried in the slightest as I thought a callback was standard after a 1st mammogram. But because you've found symptoms you are bound to think the worst.
It's not impossible for a youngster of 39 to be diagnosed, but of course it's rarer, so try and hold onto that thought in the meantime.
Hopefully your appointment shouldn't take too long to come through and I will keep my fingers crossed for you that it isn't cancer.
Kindest wishes, Lesley
Hi Minibeats
Your symptoms seem very similar to what I had and I really hope you don’t have the same diagnosis as me. I’m 49 and have a 10 year old daughter.
In May I called the GP complaining about an itchy nipple and like yourself I was prescribed some cream. My left breast then started to feel hotter than my right breast and looked abit swollen. I couldn’t feel any lumps. I called the GP again in July and luckily I got through to another doctor who referred me straight away to the breast clinic. I spent time googling and was convinced I had Paget’s Disease or inflammatory breast cancer. After undergoing several scans they told me I had DCIS and invasive cancer in my left breast and it had spread to my lymph nodes.
I had a mastectomy 4 weeks ago and it’s only after the surgery they found Paget’s disease on the nipple they removed. I am due to start my chemo in 2 weeks.
I hope you don’t have to go through what I went through.

Hello minibeats
I hope you are soon to get this sorted out as its obviously worrying you.
I had an itchy nipple for some months and it wasnt until I had my routine mammogram that I discovered I had breast cancer. I never realised itchy can be a symptom. Ice had chemo and surgery then radiotherapy and now trying to get on with my life.
I hope you get this sorted out soon, whatever it is. It may be eczema or s little infection so until you have it confirmed try to not assume it's breast cancer.
