Hello,
due to start Letrozole .. switching after 5 years on tamoxifen,
do you just stop tamoxifen one day and take Letrozole the next? Or phase it in somehow!
im putting it off as don’t want a whole new lot if side effects!
Hi Cyprusfav
I don’t know the answer as I ‘simply’ had 7 years on Anastrozole…. But I’ve read other posts where people were switching to a different hormone treatment, and I seem to remember that it was usual to have a few weeks break in between? But obviously I’m not medical and am only going on what I remember reading here. I’ll tag the lovely moomy as I’m pretty sure you switched from Letrozole to Tamoxifen at some point? Sorry if I’m wrong!
Good luck with it all. Love and hugs, HFxx
Hi, thanks for the tag HappyFeet1 yes i already went into my first brush with mild osteoporosis, so after 3 years on Letrozole (I was supposedly low risk) i was swapped to Tamoxifen. Basically swapped straight away. It’s supposedly kinder to bones and prevents too much loss. Beware though, my oncologist felt it possibly let me down as the beast sneaked behind my implant so had a recurrence. This time they threw radiotherapy and Abemaciclib plus Exemestane into the mix following surgical removal of everything. I’ve come off Abemaciclib after 19 months as it’s messed with blood pressure.

Hello,
I came off Tamoxifen a fortnight ago and had awful withdrawals. I'm still experiencing them and it can take months for them to stop. But everyone is different!
You may want to consider tapering odd Tamoxifen and seeing how you go, then stopping. I guess because you are intending to move to a new drug you may wish to give yourself time to let the withdrawals go before starting something else. You may be lucky and be unaffected but if I could go back in time I'd definitely taper off first, i.e. one tablet every other day then every two days etc. Hope this helps
xx
