Welcome to the October BC Chemotherapy Discussion.
This thread is for everyone that is having, or have completed BC chemotherapy to browse through, ask questions, answer questions and be there to help support and advise each other.
If you need any extra tips, our Chemo Tips Page is something you may find very helpful, and if you find a tip which helped you just reply to share with others who are also going through chemo. One top tip, ask about parking at the hospital where you are being treated; for some Cancer patients parking is either free or discounted - So it's worth asking about.
Macmillan produce this Healthy Eating booklet if you have any diet concerns MAC13612_Healthyeating.pdf
If you need to refer back a month here is a link to The September Discussion - Hope everyone stays safe at these uncertain times....
Don't forget all cancer patients are entitled to a 5 Year Prescription Fee Exemption Card from your GP for meds to help with any side effects.

Morning all - the effects of my TCHP chemo are starting to wear off. My mastectomy is October 14. I am terrified. Yesterday, I cleaned my kitchen from top to bottom and re-organised ahead of a trolley coming. This is the best I have felt since my treatment started in February (there was a pause because of the virus). Still bald but think I can see a shadow where hair is just - only just - starting to poke through. Hope you are all OK.

Morning Belinda. I had my mastectomy in May. I’m now on round 5 of chemo, and although I haven’t been too bad on chemo it’s been harder than the mastectomy so try not to worry too much. I know easier said than done. I sent fo a free mastectomy pillow from Jen’s friends on Facebook or google. You just pay postage and a donation. It was a quick delivery so you should get it before your op. I used it all the time, day, night and while travelling in the car. Good luck with your op. X
Belinda how long since your last treatment? I want to be you! I’ve got two doses left of THP and I’m trying not to dread them too much
It finished four weeks ago yesterday and have had herceptin only since then. I am petrified. The last two weren't too bad. My worst ones were the third and fourth. x
Hello Belinda
My treatment has been the other way round. Had mastectomy on 8th September and waiting to start THP probably in a couple of weeks. I found the mastectomy not too bad at all. Im getting a bit nervous about starting chemo but trying to be brave!
Hi goldengriller
i also had a terrible time after my first T and herceptin. This was my 4th chemo session. I had bone pain, chest pain, bowel problems, throat and mouth infection. My temperature also spiked with the injections once I was finished them it was better and I got back to feeling normal. I can honestly say that my next treatment was far better, I only had mild bone pain and indigestion. I didn’t even need to phone my team for any assistance. I ensured that I drank plenty water and exercised every day. I received my 3rd T and last chemo session today and I am hoping it will be the same as the my 5th one. I hope this helps so that you know your next one might not be as bad and will have less side effects. I will let you know what I am like after this one. I start radiotherapy on 26th of October and carry on with my herceptin wvery 3 weeks.Xx
I found the side effects were worst on my first cycles of both AC and Docetaxel. I figured my body was having a drama queen moment and throwing a tantrum.
Yes I was a bit like that but I found the 4th to be the worst . I was actually crying with the pains in my lower back and I thought my legs were going to snap. I couldn’t even play golf which keeps me going and is getting me through this . Have you had your last session yet? I am going onto letrozole in 3 weeks time for 5 years and they gave me a print out today of the side effects . Not nice !!
Hi got to spend another night. I’ve been having the injections and tonight was the final one for this round. Hopefully tomorrow they will increase. Was it when you had the Docetaxel you had problems with your temperature?
