Just curious really if your hair was a different colour or texture when it grew back after chemo and how long did it take to grow back? I'm still at the peachy fuzz stage at the moment, 7 weeks post chemo.

  • Mine has come back the same colour....but curly! It took a little while to get going but then reappeared quickly, as thick as it always was. Getting used to the curls but some people still don’t recognise me....

Had been warned it may come back completely grey or not at all so feel fortunate!
    Good Luck!

Thank you for replying. I bet those curls look lovely on you. It does seem like my hair could be growing out the same hair colour too, though not easy to tell with the peach fuzz. I would seriously love curls though, I think I would embrace any texture or hair colour at this point. Never knew it would be such an itchy business though.

  • Hi

I posted some pics on Awake thread of my hair regrowth the other day . Colour is exactly the same silver /grey but chemo curls abound .I went into shielding in March bald and needed hairdresser when it paused in July have had two trims since .

Going to keep it short as everyone liked it when I went for pixie look prior to chemo .

    You say scalp itchy ?

Mine was so I used aqueous cream big tub from boots or hone bargains etc and massaged into scalp left for minute or two rinsed off prior to shampoo (even with small amount of fuzz. )

Then massaged a small amount into scalp and left it ...still using it now .

Thank you for your reply. I'm a big fan of the pixie look too, just waiting till I have enough hair for at least a buzz cut, that was what I had prior to chemo in preparation for the treatment and honestly thought it looked OK though a pixie would look much better.

Yes, one step at a timeSlight smileWe'll get there xx

Would never dream of getting rid of this fuzz. But hopefully I'll have enough of it soon that it will begin to resemble more the buzz cut I had just prior to chemo. Though it doesn't seem to grow out evenly. At the moment the fuzz primarily covers my crown, with hardly any hair/fuzz at the sides and nothing at the back. I am now 7 weeks post chemo.

  • Hi. Mine came back more grey and definitely more curly. I am 6months after I finish chemo and radio and I have short hair still. I left top to grow and cutting sides only. I had good amount of hair 2 months after finishing treatment. My scalp it's so itchy it's unbelievable. Last time I ask my hairdresser about that and she said that it's probably due to amount of hair growing at once.

I had my last chemo at the start of March. My hairdresser reckons around 5” growth a year. Mine started to grow back during chemo. I was doing the cold cap but lost a strip over my ears and around the back of my head, as well as in my parting line and odd chunks elsewhere. It’s curly and finer and looked greyer, so I’ve dyed my hair for the first time ever! The parting growth is like a Mohican, even though it’s now about 3” long - it just won’t lie flat! Ditto the other new growth, so it pushes my longer hair all over the place. It’s like two hair “styles” on one head!

My hairdresser was astonished at how much hair I had. I had it cut to a short bob to try to get the longer and new shorter hair closer together. He recommended L’Oréal castings as being a kind colour treatment.

Body hair - I suddenly saw fuzz on my arms and down on my face. Eyebrows are lighter, and also are curly, so I’ve ventured into coloured gel by Clinique. Never been much of one for makeup, but I feel more confident with this. Eyelashes are, I think, a bit short still.

Ive just remembered that I had something like cradle cap going on for a while too, but that settled down. I used a mild (Simple) shampoo and conditioner.

Hopefully this gives you some hope and an idea of how more than your scalp hair returns. Lucky girls, aren’t we! x

Thank you for your reply. Well done for getting through chemo and radio. I think your hairdresser could be right about the itching, it's almost as if whenever I feel the itching I can actually feel all those hair-follicles doing their work!

Thank you for your reply and well done for getting through chemo and braving the cold cap! I couldn't do the cap myself, me and the cold we don't mix, and am so relieved something is finally sprouting on my head even if it's just fuzz. My growth is like a Mohican too as I've a good bit of fuzz now on my crown but nothing hardly on the sides. But I can certainly feel it growing, almost constantly, haha. Hopefully my eyebrows and eyelashes will make an appearance soon, I'm sure all the hair will return in time, both the wanted and unwanted lol. I'll just have to learn to become more of a patient person! x
