Hi. I am frustrated and feeling so low at the moment. I don't know what else I can do and it seems like I am left alone with this.
I got C diff infection first time when I had chemo . I was admitted to hospital and treated with Metronidazole. All went well and I got further treatment.
Now 4 months after I finish main treatment (chemo and radio) I developed C diff infection again :( .Don't know how as I am sitting at home most times. I got 9 stool each day for about 2 weeks. I couldn't eat anything. I was given Metronidazol again but it didn't work this time so after that I was given another anthbiotics Vancomycin. After second anthbiotics the situation was seems to settle down stools came back to 1-3 each day. I take some probiotics to help with intestine flora go back to normal and stick withe easily digestible diet. The problem is that I still have dirahea every week or so if I eat anything more greasy or if I eat raw fruits etc. It it 2 months now and I can't live like that! My GP send some sample for test but they all come back normal. My Oncology team say that it's up to GP to sort things out.I don't know what to do. Did anyone had similar problems???
Hi Sparkler 85 welcome to the forum. I dont know enough about your query to answer with any sense of help but I wondered if you might like to post in the Ask a Nurse section as they will be better able to answer your query.
If you just click in the link I have inserted in the reply for you it should take you straight to the Ask A Nurse section.

Hi, I had a stem cell transplant for lymphoma a year ok which was successful. I contracted CDiff in hospital and still have it 1 year later. It comes and goes but I have been on Vancomycin for ages now. Have discussed a fecal transplant with my GP but COVID has put it all on hold.
I sympathise with you - it’s really not nice. My advice would be to go back to your GP and explain how it’s affecting your life. Good luck x
Thank you for your reply! I don't want to sound bad but it's comforting that I am not the only one in that situation. Hope you will feel better soon as well.
My GP referral me to gastro clinic finally . I am waiting for the Hospital to contact me and praying that we won't have second wave of covid . The GP did a lot of test including food allergy, Coeliac, colon cancer and all come back negative so I am curious to see what they will do next. It's really stressful for me. I can't eat any fruits and most of the vegetables as that make things worse for me. I can't live like that . I am literally scared of food as I don't know what will trigger diarrhea. I need to manage somehow till the appointment.
I got Cdiff after being admitted for Sepsis during chemo. Someone thought it was a good idea to let a nurse look after me (with a low immune system ) and the patient in the room next door who had a positive Cdiff test. She obviously didn’t wash her hands correctly as it was passed on to me. It took 2courses of vancomycin and a 10day stay in isolation to be resolved. I found that for months afterwards I could have digestive issues.
Thank you for your reply. Do you feel better now or still have some digestive issues?
I’m okay now - the odd thing causes issues ( too much cheese, too much garlic) .
Hi Sparkler,
Have you tried Manuka honey with live bio yoghurt ? Years ago I had a long term bowel infection caused by a soil bacteria, not usually found in humans.Prof Duncan Colin-jones recommended it to me after trying various antibiotics and it worked wonders. If you look on the web you will find a lot of research is being done it at the moment.
One or two teaspoons of Manuka honey ( not ordinary honey) mixed with a small pot equivalent of bio live yoghurt, three or four times a day after food and at bedtime.
It also helped my husband after he had an stomach ulcer. We still take it regularly as I'm sure it helps our overall health.
Yvie
I eat yoghurt but only once a day and without honey. Will definitely try to eat more. Thanks for your advice
