Hi Everyone
I was just wondering how often you all see or speak to your Oncologist?
I met mine face to face before I started chemo, then she left. Then I had a call with my new Oncologist halfway through my chemo and that’s been it. Is this usual? I would like to have discussed the effects of the docetaxel and pertuzumab that I’ve just had after swapping from the EC, but I don’t have a direct number for her. Or should I talk with the BCN instead?
What’s everyone else’s experience?
Thanks
Hi , at our hospital (Coventry) its usual to see the oncologist between each round of chemo. This allows an assessment of your tolerance to the drugs and if any changes are needed. So for me the 3 week cycle was chemo and injections at home, week free of any, oncologist and blood test ready for the round to start all over again.
If in ANY doubt contact your nurse, its what she's there for and this is when you learn how not to take no for an answer. Weve all learnt not to be fobbed off. The best thread is the AWAKE THREAD where you will find an accumulation of knowledge (well over 30,000 posts and counting)
I used to see the oncologist in between each chemo session, usually about a week before the next one. He would ask about side effects, make a judgment on whether to reduce the dose or not, and order a blood test ready for next time. This was pre Covid so I always saw him face to face, but I’d have thought they would at least have a telephone consultation with you. I agree to ring your BCN and ask for a consultation. She (BCN) is the gateway to the consultants. Mine have always been pretty good.
Gosh that’s amazing. It confirms what I suspected-that I’m not really getting the communication I need. I appreciate Covid is making everything difficult but I do feel like I’m just doing this on my own. I’ve had one call from my BCN since I started chemo in November apart from once when I chased her about something.
After reading many threads on here I had the feeling my experience was highlighting the fact I feel I’m on my own with this.
Many thanks for the reply xx
The one thing BC teaches you is how not to take b*****t from anyone. Please come and join us on the AWAKE thread. If you do be warned we're all complete FRUIT LOOPS.
Hi kateandbiz
thank you for your reply. I think I will get in touch with the BCN on Monday. I’m due more chemo on Tuesday so it’s probably too late to alter my chemo/change the dose but at least I’ll feel like I can get my feelings across to someone. x
I will, thank you off to have a wee look now. This forum is so supportive I’m so glad I found it , I really appreciate the advice of so many lovely ladies x
