hair loss while cold capping

Hi All. I'm about to have my 5th session of chemo tomorrow (TNBC). I've been having weekly chemo, Wk 1 Immunotherapy, Paclitaxel and Carboplatin followed by 2 wks of Paclitaxel only before starting next cycle. Two and a half weeks in I started losing hair. Hair wash day is definitely the worst but bald patches, mainly at the crown, have appeared. I'm worried that the cold cap isn't going to do enough and I'm still going to need some type of head covering. What does everyone use and where have you bought them from please. I really don't think a bald head is going to suit me and want to be prepared.

  • I didn't do cold cap. My oncologist said it would work for my first lot but once I got to EC it would all go. My hair is short anyway. I used thin rectangular scarves tied like a turban. The scarf went on my head. Crossed at the back then I twisted the ends and tied a reef knot on top of my head. This gave volume of the scarf taking away the bald look tied at the back does.

Look on Pinterest at videos or YouTube. I bought the scarves from Next, Boyes, and TKMax. I confess I bought a lot but I enjoyed matching them to my clothes. I even had a Christmas one. They've cost me a fortune but I love them. Thin cotton works best they don't slip.

I've been for my nails putting back on, had to take them off for surgery, set off with my daughter driving and realised I had nothing on my head!

I used a bobble hat in the house and in bed when I was cold. I did buy premade turban things but never wore them as they didn't have enough volume.

Whatever you decide walk with your head up and lipp y on.

Three times! What did I do?

  • Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, that’s really helpful.
I will give your scarf technique a go, I think I want something with volume, but not too much so i stand out on a crowd. This is a whole new minefield. I really do wonder if i should just brave the shave but keep thinking what if the cold cap works just enough.
So sorry to hear this is your 3rd diagnosis. That must be very hard mentally. Wishing you lots of luck and positivity with your treatment Heartpulse

  • You are welcome. I shaved mine off because the hair falling out was getting everywhere. That included in my food as I cooked and baked. Yeuch.

  • Oh yes,  that sounds familiar. My husband has his food….with a side dish of my hair lol. X
