Hi
i have found a lump and am waiting for an appointment with the breast clinic 2 yrs after my last radiation therapy and so will very likely decide to have 1or both breasts removed this time, I’m 70 yrs old and have been told having reconstructive breasts is quite painful for a long time and that wearing a bra with fillers in rises up your back and is uncomfortable, I’d like to hear other opinions please?
I'm 69 and just had a bilateral mastectomy . I've decided to go flat.I've donated anything needing a cleavage. I've bought things with high neck and round neck things. I've even managed to buy 2 swimsuits from Next from their normal range which look good on a flat chest. A pattern works best.
I doubt people will notice 9 months of the year. Only in the summer might it be more obvious. Just think a nice gypsy top. Off the shoulder with a frill kneckline. Without the struggle of a strapless bra.
Friends and family won't care and I doubt anyone else would notice.
Three times! What did I do?
I hope you know that they are very reluctant to remove a healthy breast. So if all THE cancer had been in one breast they will argue to keep the healthy breast. I've had BC in both breasts and it came back again. However there was considerable debate about removing my left breast as that was clear but there was cancer in a more on the left. This had not been identified from the second time I had it.
I was told if I wanted the left breast removing I would have to go for psycologica! Assesment. Fortunately my oncologist agreed with me and argued my case at the MDT meeting. Her argument was a request for symmetry rather than one of prevention. That is clearly stated in my documents I signed before surgery.
My main problem now is reducing the size of my belly. If I don't stand correctly I tend to look like a man with a beer belly.my noobs use to hide my belly from my angle

Hi Hetty15, I had a right side mastectomy last December and opted not to go for reconstruction. It is still an option down the road if I change my mind, which is good reassurance. However, I don't miss it. I was given a prosthetic, which I may use in summer if I feel the need to but have found I am quite happy as I am. I will point out that I am only an A cup so was not well endowed anyway and is less obvious in winter clothes. I wear a front button mastectomy bra for left boob modesty.
Silverberg, I feel your belly dilemna. I'm only a small frame but have always had a belly and a butt - like we don't got through enough, lol. Good job my husband is a good un what with that, one boob and a bald head
