Hi

I had a mastectomy last May and will be taking anastrozole for 10 years. I have just found a pea sized lump in my other breast. I understand that hormone treatment prevents the recurrence of breast cancer. Has anyone experienced a new lump?

thanks

  • Hi Polar bear,  it's early for another lump to appear,  but hormone blockers don't work for everyone. Could you contact your breast nurse (probably quicker than going through the doctor) and ask for a scan?

About a yard after my surgery a lump  appeared which I wondered about,  and I was referred to the breast clinic again where thr doctor requested a scan and it was scar tissue. I was told it's good to get anything like that checked ASAP, as if it's fine it gives peace of mind,  and if it's not then you are on top of it!

  • Hi , I haven’t had a new lump since my op 2 years ago but I did have a pea size lump 15 years ago (same breast) which was investigated, aspirated, biopsied - all of which came back as abnormal but inconclusive. So I had a lumpectomy and it finally revealed itself to be a fibroadenoma ie benign. So I just wanted to say, don’t assume this new one is cancer, most lumps aren’t. I know that’s easy to say and I would be fearing the worst myself I’m sure, but it remains true! As for the anastrozole, yes I’m on it too to prevent recurrence. Nothing is ever 100 per cent though so definitely need to get the lump checked out.

Have you got an appointment at the breast clinic yet? You should be able to self refer as you’ve been treated recently, I thibk I can for another 3 years.

I’m sure others will pop in and there will be some with this experience. Do get that appointment if you haven’t already, and let us know how you get on. Love and hugs, HFxx
