Hello. I am 48 and was diagnosed with breast cancer on 11 January. I am just about to have a mastectomy.
I read so many stories of tumour sizes between 10mm and 30mm.
I have two tumours of 70mm and 20 mm. Yes you read it right it really is a whole 7cm and 2cm. I haven’t got the measurements wrong!
Does anyone else have LARGE tumours? Please don’t ask how the hell I missed them...️
Thanks
Rosie
Hi Rosie, Mine was showing at 36mm , after MX the report showed 114x 91mm. This is because its lobular and does not form lumps but strings. Scans in my opinion cannot accurately tell the size. What type is yours? Good luck with the MX, they will take care of you, mine was back in november all good, and just waiting for chemo next week. Big hugs Anna x
Hello Anna. I just know that it’s invasive ductal cancer. The mammogram and ultrasound only showed it to be 4.5cm but my surgeon was convinced that it felt larger so sent me for an MRI. The MRI confirmed 7cm and a second tumour of 2 cm but she also said there were other small masses in between.
It just sounds so bloody big and all I seem to read about are people with 2-3cm tumours.
Did you have reconstruction with the mastectomy?
Good luck with the chemo. It feels like a long journey doesn’t it...one day at a time though xx
They haven’t said lobular cancer to me, just ductal cancer. I’ve definitely been frustrated with myself for not feeling it but yes I agree that at least I’m getting treated now, thank you x
Hi Rosie, I totally understand your feelings of how the hell did you miss them!!! I never felt mine, I went to the GP because my nipple was sore. It was a bit of a whirlwind and within 2 months I had a mastectomy (23rd November) The final histology report was that I had 6.5cm of invasive breast cancer and a total tumour of 13cm which was made up of DCIS. Even when I knew it was there I couldn’t feel it! Mine is also invasive ductal. It’s ER & HER2 + I’m 43 and was told it’s because my breast tissue was still quite dense. I’m about to start Chemotherapy and it can be quite daunting but if you have any questions or just want to chat then I’m happy to help if I can.
Neenie x
No recon, have decided to remain flat, good luck with your treatment. I hope all goes well. x
Hi,
I had a 5cm in a 32 inch breast, of which 4.5cm invasive ductal and 0.5 cm DCIS, I could feel it but GP said it was rib and unfortunately I took his advise which was not to worry as I'd had a mammogram only 6 weeks before. I have extremely dense breast tissue and so would probably have been difficult to detect. I had a mastectomy and will remain flat.
Best Wishes.
Hi Rosie. My tumor was 10cm in total. Yes CM! I understand how it can be missed then. Don't beat yourself up . I had so many days when I thought why I didn't do ultrasound of the breast when I was going for gyno appointment. What's done it's done. You can't change it.. Wish you all the best with your treatment
Hey! I was originally thought to have two suspicious areas...turned out to be one of 10cm....I had a mammogram 8 months before that was ‘clear’ ....I suspect not! Anyway I had always had lumpy breast....had it checked time and time again. I remember that feeling of being the only one that seemed to have such a large area....!
On a positive note, over two years since end of treatment and I am doing well!
Good luck and take care
Hi Rosie, I was diagnosed in August 2019 with lobular and ductal BC, the lobular one was 8cm the other very small! I was told that lobular breast cancer can hide so don’t be upset you missed it. I felt so bad that I hadn’t caught mine because I had lost my mum in the February before to breast cancer so if anyone should have been highly aware it was me!
Been through chemo first then mastectomy and lastly radiotherapy.
I now just make sure that I try to get the message across to all my friends and family to check yourself but also go for those mammograms...I’m proof they save lives!
Wishing you all the very best with your treatment and you have found the right place if you need to ask questions, everyone here is so friendly and helpful! x
