Hi, had appointment through for a couple weeks time for oncology appointment. I had chemo back in 2012 but can't say I asked much, just wanted to know what they were going to do without the details. This time is different as I have already had masectomy, ct scans clear and no nodes affected. Last time, used chemo to shrink it before surgery.
Any questions that you can think of that I need to ask...I have it is ER positive and HER2 negative, there was an affected area of 2cm.
Thanks
Del
Hi
I'd ask
- what type of chemo, how often, how will it be delivered, side effects and what drugs will be given to counteract
- if delivered via IV can you get a PORT? (My preference over other means)
- will you be given covid vacc (I ask as at my hospotal those going to the chemo ward often are referred regardless of age)
- how long will the infusion take, what is the process ( I had a steroid then saline flush then chemo then flush with some meds up front)
- what is the chemo trying to achieve - shrinkage/total elimination? You may already know
- how often will you have scans to check work of chemo, what type of scans
- will you have a blood test & see Dr before each chemo ( I did, not sure if this happens for all types of chemo though)
- will you need to/be able to wear cold cap?
- who to contact if any issues during chemo
- any food or current medication needing stopping
Good luck.
Sam
Thanks Sam, really helpful. Will make sure I write all those down x
If your scans and nodes are clear are they definitely giving chemo? Have they sent off a sample for genomic testing (OncotyleDX?), what grade is the cancer, was there lymphovascular invasion seen?
I'm guessing that they'll put you on hormone blockers eventually, so which one and for how long?
My breast co sultant said yes to chemo but haven't seen oncology yet and will ask about the oncotyleDX score. It was grade 2 with a bit of dcis mixed in. No idea what lymphovascular invasion is so going to Google that now lol
I've been on hormone blockers since 2012/13!
