Since my lumpectomy in 2015, when I had lymph glands removed as well (thankfully clear) on my left side, I have found that in my right armpit there is always a smell of body odour. I shower daily but even after a shower I can smell it. Has anyone else had this problem? It's odd because my left armpit is odour free. I assume this must be related to lymph glands, but it's worrying and embarrassing.
Hi
Not had any issues since having my sentinel lymph nodes removed, but up until about 10 years ago I used to suffer with excessive sweat under arm. I showered in the morning and when my colleagues would go out for a night straight after work, I'd always go home to have a shower and join them later because I'd feel so sticky and horrible. Sometimes I felt as if people would think I didn't shower at all!. Wearing breathable clothes etc didn't help either at that time, I used normal antiperspirants. I know there is a lot of myths around cancer and antiperspirants, but I prefer to trust the experts, such as cancer research uk.
I saw a product - Perspirex- advertised online and decided to try it. You put it on at night but not every night and although it's quite expensive, it lasts for ages and OMG it has totally worked for me. I use it on Tuesday and Friday nights and I have never had an issue with excessive underarm sweating since. After soooo many years of feeling like a sweaty thing, it was a revelation. I bought the normal first and used it 3 x a week and then reduced to twice a week. I tried the strong once to see if I could just put it on once a week, but that resulted in my underarm being so itchy, that I was scratching it in my sleep and it became irritated so I threw it away. They do now, I see have a comfort version. Although during radiotherapy we're not supposed to use antiperspirant, I must confess, I still used this. However, I had the 3 weeks and due to the way my appointments were, I ended up with a day off once a week (problems with the machines) so I was able to use it on the night during the week where I didn't have radio next day and then obviously none at the weekend, so I could use it then. If just one underarm suffers, then maybe it could be that it is just used on that one? I'm not promoting it per se, because I know a lot of people have issues with aluminium in antiperspirants and this one does have it, but as I say, I'd prefer to rely on the experts and the fact that I don't have this horrible and embarrassing issue any more.
Hope this helps,
Best wishes, Lesley
Hi Penbry
I had my Lumprctomy in 2018 and also had 3 lymph glands removed on my right side. I have found exactly the same problem as you on my right side. My left side no smell. I am very careful what I use but find santex deodorant 0% sensItive stick very good apply twice a day; It should work for you, if you can not get it in UK then let me know and I will send you one from France. All the best Penbry
Warm regards Jules
Hello Lesley. Thank you so much for your reply. I must admit, I do steer clear of any product with aluminium in it and, since my surgery, have been using an organic deodorant, but I will look into Perspirex. BO is not a problem I've ever suffered from before, so it's uncomfortable and embarrassing. Once again, thank you for your advice.

Hello Jules. Thank you for your reply. I have used Santex but unfortunately it did not help. The organic deodorant I have used since my op used to be fine, but not for some time now. I think I will probably get some advice from my doctor. It was very kind of you to offer to send me some Santex. Thank you so much.
