Hi Folks,

Wondering if anyone else has come across this problem. I had a right breast mastectomy 22nd May. I asked for a double mastectomy but was told they wouldn't as there was no sign of cancer in the left. I asked about reconstruction as I wear a J cup bra and was told they would reduce my J cup when I had reconstruction and build me a new boob on the right to match. No problem.

Last week I got my prosthetic through the post a size 18 (I am told the biggest they make) and surprise surprise its too small. Im being told I would have to have a made to measure which the NHS won't fund or will only part fund and its £3000!!!!!!!! The wait list for reconstruction was over a year before covid so I'm guess now is closer to 2. I have to use 4 comfys at the min which is less than blinking comfy.

I am absolutely gutted I can't afford £3k I really don't think I should have to. I have asked for a reduction years ago amd jump through hoops to be told No, I asked for a double mastectomy to avoid this problem and was told No. I work in a customer facing role and although I am still under going treatment and currently furloughed the though of returning to work with 1 boob is beyond what my confidence could take.

Anyone else had this problem or know how to overcome it?

  • Hi  so sorry your having to cope with this on top of everything else, I’m the opposite and very small chested so I am still just using my squishy from hospital 10 months after op. Have you heard of Knitted Knockers? They are a team of ladies up and down the country who knit/crochet boobies to size, it’s not a proper prosthetic but would be better than using 4 comfies. https://www.knittedknockersuk.com/ Have a look and get in touch. Huge hugs xx

  • I think I remember that they can provide/sew in weights, I hope it proves an option at least or that others with similar experience can advise how they have overcome it xx
