Hey folks, I had surgery on 12th June to remove a lump from my breast and also to remove sample lymph nodes.the wound from my breast has healed to this point with no concern but the wound under my arm pit continues to open and runs against clothes, splits etc. Ive taken to keeping dressings due to friction etc. Anyone else experience this and any tips please?

  • Hello Trisha/,

Really sorry you’re having so much trouble with that underarm wound. I think the best thing would be to get back to your BCN  as they would be the very best to advise you.

i had both a SNB and a Mx separately but both wounds were glued and healed easily and well, so can’t even advise on types of dressings.

Hope you can get seen soon, I’d phone up tomorrow...

    Hi

I had a mastcetomy and lymph node removal in March. 4 weeks post op I had an infection around the arm pit and phoned gp who gave me antibiotics. I also spoke to bc nurse who made an appointment to see my surgeon. Definately speak to your bcn tomorrow.

  • Hi Trisha,

I remember my armpit wound being far more painful than the lumpectomy one. I saw my GP, who re-dressed it for me. She said that she or the nurses would be happy to see me again or that I could buy paper steri strips to help to stop it from reopening (I bought some from amazon) and she gave me dressings to take away. My operation was pre-Covid though, so it depends  how your local surgery is working at the moment. I only avoided going back to the hospital as it’s a 30 mile round trip and a parking nightmare.
I also bought several different bras to try to find a comfortable one. Several people recommended stretchy sports bras that you pull on over your head from Asda and Primark.

    Take care,
