Hello everyone,

Quick question: Did anyone on Tamoxifen experience mild discomfort in their lower abdomen area?  I've only been on it for 7 days but noticed a very mild pain (almost like a period cramp) on day 2.  I let my BC nurse know and she said that it can happen and to let her know if it gets any worse.  Also, I've had random tingles and burning sensations in my arms, hands and legs since starting the Tamoxifen too.  Anyone else?I finished Chemo in December 2019, so I don't think it's delayed neuropathy (but its certainly possible I guess?).   I've had various blood tests, MRI's, and even a visit to A&E, so apparently all roads point to Tamoxifen.  Hoping this all goes away soon!

Would be grateful for any reassurance - this is a long and scary journey at times.

Thanks so much

  • Hi

I'm on Anastrozole and no side effects like taht (very few for me anyway) but I noticed your post had gone unanswered, so I thought I'd reply to bump it up in case any ladies on Tamoxifen are around now.

  • Hi Belvoir Im sorry to read your having problems with Tamoxifen.I was on it for nearly 5yrs until my cancer returned. It stopped my periods within a few months I also had hot flushes.I remember getting really bad leg cramps which kept me awake.I took lots of hot baths and pain killers. The symptoms seem to die down when you have been taking Tamoxifen for a while or maybe I just got used to it.Take care xx

  • Hey, sorry to hear of your side effects....funny you should mention weird tingling but I am on letrozole and I had the oddest tingling sensation at the beginning. It was like a wave of shivers up my body...but I wasn’t cold. Tried to explain to oncologist...he didn’t bat an eye....but it was the oddest feeling.....I am 18 months in now and do feel it on occasion. I have read that it can be caused by hot flushes then you feel cold after....but that didn’t quite ring true. I have also read that your body finds it harder to self regulate temperature and so that is what can cause these odd sensations. Who knows....I’ve given up worrying about it.

Thank you so much for your reply.  I'm glad to hear that the some of the side effects ease off after you've been taking it for a while, but I am so deeply sorry to hear that your cancer returned.  That's just horrible and I'm so sorry.  Did it come back when you stopped taking the Tamoxifen or whilst you were still on it?  And was it a return of the same breast cancer?  I hope you are doing well today and that they have been able to treat it.

Wishing you all the very best.

    Take care xoxo

Thank you for your reply.  I really appreciate it.  My oncologist sounds like yours...lol...doesn't bat an eye.  I'll be glad when I get to the point of giving up worrying.  It's all I seem to do at the moment.

    Take care x

  • Hi it came back whilst I was on Tamoxifen. As I had breast cancer the first time around age 32  I had to have bilateral mastectomies as the cancer was in both breasts and I opted for immediate reconstruction. My cancer returned 4ys 8mths later age 37 but thankfully was successfully treated with removal of right reconstructed breast and part of my pectoral muscle and full clearance of lymph nodes on that side.I also had more chemo, radio, herceptin and I'm now on another hormone therapy drug called Anastrozole which has quite a few side effects. But I'm now 5yrs down the line last week which means I'm in remission.Long may it last.Keep well and stay safe xx
