Hiya just need some advice please I’ve woke up this morning with really sore and red veins in my arm ( the arm they use) had my 3rd EC chemo on Friday

is it a concern what should I do? Xx

  • Hi Julus this could be to do with the chemo and I would suggest that you give the chemo unit a call and let them have  a look and they can then decide if it is an issue and if it needs treated . You probably should do that now if thats possible and sorry for the late reply.

Please do come back and let us know how you get on. xxx

  • Hi Julus

Ring your unit so you can go in and get them checked out to make sure what it is .

After my second EC I got lumpy veins on under arm . Quite deep tracking up arm and painful when touched .I was lucky It coincided with Onco appointment so she diagnosed Thromo phlebitis ,quite common apparently no danger could use ibuprofen gel . She also ordered an extra bag of saline to be pushed thru after infusions to flush the vein . This def made it feel better . The tracking and some mild discomfort will be around for a while .

So that was me but as we know we all different so get it checked out . How many EC are you having Julus?

  • Hi Julus

Sorry to hear you’re sore. It is phlebitis, inflammation of the veins due to the strong chemo drugs. I had it after FEC. Unit gave me prescription for ibuprofen gel which numbs the discomfort. It can be a wee bit slow to clear up - about 3 to 4 weeks but it will settle.

    all the best
