Hi,

i have just completed 4 rounds of Ec chemo. I am now due to start 4 rounds of Paclitaxel this coming Thursday. I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on side effects I may have and if there is anything I can do before hand to reduce them? I know everyone has different side effects, I’m really nervous about having it done as I feel like I’m starting all over again. Thank you

    Hi

Are you having your Paclitaxel sessions weekly, or a different time frame - Possibly every two weeks ? Reason for asking is 4 seems an odd number of Taxol (Paclitaxel) sessions to have.

You could have a look through the January Chemo Discussion as several ladies who post there are having Paclitaxel.

Thank you It was tough at times but I did it! Yes I’m having 4 rounds every 2 weeks, I had no idea it wasn’t the norm? Unless I’ve got it wrong but I’m sure I haven’t. I will have a look at the chemo discussion! Thank you xx

Ask them if they have a policy about keeping your feet cold during the infusions, there is some evidence it reduces neuropathy , it was too late for me !!!

    Hi

I also had 4 rounds of Taxol every 2 weeks so you're not the only one. My Oncologist said it's pretty standard to have 4 rounds of AC followed by 4 rounds on Taxol. From my own experience my neuropathy was getting worse on my fingers and toes, I threw up a few times and I felt extremely tired. I also lost most of my eyebrows and eyelashes after 2 rounds of Taxol. I had to have the injection that's supposed to boost the production of white blood cells and that injection combined with Taxol caused me to have unbearable bone pains for 2-3 days. I however learned that I coped with the pain better with ibuprofen rather than the naproxen they gave me. Right after I had my last round of Taxol the next day I had problem with my sinus (blocked and super dry) which is still going on until now, over one month later and noone knows why.

  • I was meant to have 4x2-weekly Paclitaxel as well, but asked for weekly instead.

    Hi

I've seen 2 weekly Taxol mentioned a few times recently and it seems to becoming more commonly used. Probably a trial was done somewhere and the findings gave a better prognosis.

Always used to be weekly - more commonly 12 weekly sessions which was a bit of a long haul after 9 weeks of EC or FEC

Just checking really as a lot of folks confuse Taxol with Taxotere Thumbsup

Hope the Taxol is kind to you, G n' J

So I've done 3 paclitaxel ( every 2 weeks) and I've found it ok. I have 2 good days, then 3 days of aches. They are bad but mine have not been nearly as bad as other poor women on here. Mine have been ok just with paracetamol. After that I feel totally fine for the rest of the 2 weeks so don't worry, you might be lucky like I have been. I've been out walking every day and getting on as normal. My fingers are slightly numb but not bad. Good luck!!!!!!! Xxxxxx

I had 12 x weekly paclitaxel. I was very tiered and my bowel was rather busy!  But after 4 x EC it was way easier. Yes I did suffer with nails and neuropathy as well, and I struggled to keep my neutrophils up, but it was nowhere near as awful as EC. Good luck. It does end, I promise. xx
