Hi,

I've been on letrozole for two and a half years now. It's been hard but I've coped. Now my hair is thinning so much it just feels like fluff. Is there any product out there that I can get to thicken it?

Thanks in Advance

  • Hi

i have been on letrozole for about 18 months now. Never had thick hair before however I have been using ‘Mane and Tail’ shampoo and conditioner for all that time and swear by it. I’m not saying my hair is thick but definitely has made it feel so much better. I was recommended this by other people who lost their hair and tried others but keep coming back to it.

Another I have just started using is ‘Bondi Beach’ has cost me a small fortune and comes with great promises, I’ll have to let you know on that one!!

    hope this helps

  • Hi ,

I’ve been on Letrozole since April 2018 and did notice hair thinning, but my hair was always very thick. It never got that thin to others but my hairdresser (who normally reached for her thinning scissors when I walked into the salon) and I knew.

it thickened up a lot again gradually  and went rather more curly than it used to be, but is still not as thick as it used to be; only needs top thinning occasionally.

hope you find products that help....

Hi Joanne.  I lost all my hair with chemo so can’t know how it would have come back without any help, but I found Nioxin shampoo on the cancer research website and have used that since the very first fluff started to come back. I have been on letrazole for a year. My hair is fairly thick. I was very worried about it thinning, but so far so good. So I can’t say the Nioxin is definitely working but I will be sticking with it.

  • Hiya,

I also used the nioxin shampoo during chemo. I have been taking letrozole for 2 years. I have not noticed much thinning - apart from all the grey hairs that keep appearing - and I keep plucking them out!

Hi, I am so pleased that I found your post.

I am having a mastectomy on the 16th of January and have been on Letrozole since the 23rd of October this year.  Even though it has been such a short time my scalp is now clearly visable on the top of my head and I am going to try the "Mane and Tail" or "Nioxin" once I have got the dreaded surgery over.

I would really like to ask if anyone has any tips about dry shampoo for immediately after the operation? I know this may sound rather pathetic given what we all have to put up with and I have not got a clue what to expect either during or after surgery but it is something that seems to be playing on my mind for some obscure reason!

  • Hi ,

I confess I just went with the flow for the 2 mornings I was in hospital (just had a good wash) . As my scar was glued I then, with help of hubs and daughter to organise and advise, had a shower and washed hair one handed when home. Hubs has a bath board and I used that to stand the drain bottles on. I didn’t care a lot for how my hair looked after washing (but it felt great!) but coped with hair dryer and brush, dryer with my Mx sides elbow propped to hold it, brush in good hand and simply moved my head around accordingly! My Mx was with implant so movement a bit limited....but I did my exercises religiously!

    Hi Joanne

    1. I've been on letrozole since October 2017. Lost all my hair with chemo and had started coming in again when I started letrozole.i was concerned that hair thinning was a side effect listed. I had previously had lots of curly spiral hair and it's definitely not came back the same. Thinner, dry and very loose curl now. I can see my scalp at the front and thinner at the crown. I use thickening powders which most hair product companies make versions of. They don't feel particularly nice in my hair but do work. Also started using a fiber hair product which my husband uses for his bald patch. It's very clever. One is called go fybr....worth trying. Hope these suggestions help. I can totally sympathise with u. Take care.
