Hi all.

I've had two lumpectomy. They were thirteen years apart. The first boob had a biggish chunk out and its stayed small after radiotherapy. The other one has got bigger as I put on weight. Now after radiotherapy it's very firm. This makes the difference in size.

I went to be fitted for s bra and obviously it fits one boob perfectly. The other side goes like an egg box.

Where do I go to or see to help balance me up please

  • Hi

Have you contacted your BC nurse?  I'm sure the nurses must know the best places to go.  They must have had other people in your situation and have a wealth of information to hand.  I would hope so, anyway!

    Best wishes,

  • Hi ,

I agree with the above post, I bet they will be able to refer you to a prosthetics clinic if that’s what you wish, or refer you to a consultant plastics surgeon if you want to go for enhancement/reduction?

Hi , I had an extensive lumpectomy earlier this year resulting in a noticeable difference between my breasts. Like you, if one boob fits a bra cup, the other cup is all wrinkled and empty! I spoke to my breast care nurse and she arranged for me to meet with reps from breast form companies (so far I've met with Trulife and Amoena) They are helping me to find a breast form that will even out my breasts plus I've been given a free bra (because your imbalance was caused by breast cancer surgery, you're entitled to a free breast form on the NHS)

I'm not certain I can face more surgery so for now, the breast form should keep me going while I make up my mind.

    I hope this helps xx

    Thank Naid

I will speak to BC nurse in the New Year. I'm going to discuss going back on letrozole. I've done some research and found a lingerie shop that stocks forms and bras. It may be a little expensive but I've decided " I'm worth it" besides got some cash from my Mum for Christmas so it seems like a good way to spend it.

It's that or a chicken fillet out of the freezer for New Years Eve.

    Wish me luck.

    A little expensive!!!!!

I'd got the insert into my bra, fallen in love with it, agreed to have it then asked the price.

Mum will be combining Christmas and birthday presents.!!

Still could not have left it in the shop, I've a leather jacket I bought 15 years ago in the same way. I'm still wearing that so fingers crossed for insert.

I drew the line at a posh bra though.

  • Hi ,

I had an appointment made for the ‘appliance’ lady who visits the breast clinic and she simply looked at my flat area and went to her case, sorted me out a ‘fillet’ straight away! I asked how much and she just said nothing!
surely your clinic has a similar arrangement?

    It probably does.

But I'm not going till 16th January. I wanted to be right for New Years Eve. I know it's madness but I'm clawing back my confidence a bit at a time. Plus I want to be in control. I'm still working so I can afford it sort off. Put it another way I can spend Christmas money on luxuries. So that's what I've done. It is up for debate whether matching boobs are luxuries?

I had lymphedema first time round and paid for patterned sleeves from America for about the same price NHS ones are free. I suppose this is the same thing.

If I have to have it, I do it on my terms. I'm know I'm lucky to have the choice.

The filet is a surgical appliance and you are entitled to it free.

    I am aware of that.
