Hi
Just wondering about getting a wig if some description. Despite trying the cold cap my hair has decide to start falling out this morning.
The dr said I get a voucher or money towards a wig. Does anyone know how you go about getting this please?
Many thanks
Ali
Hi
There is most likely a Macmillan centre at your hospital/chemo unit, they will be able to give you a voucher towards the cost - although be warned it doesn’t really touch the cost of most wigs.
I opted for a wig, having young children and a daily school run I preferred my diagnosis/treatment to remain hidden unless I choose otherwise.
They really are quite remarkable and no one knew I was wearing a wig unless I told them!
Good luck with everything

Hi
My story on Profile
Just about finished Chemo been delayed this week til next for my last one .
I am on EC x6 then Herceptin x18 Onco was very definite that I would lose hair usually in first cycle .
So I did two things to take control of hairloss Firstly I had hair cut in pixie style (loved it ) Then handled hair as little as possible .So only washed when needed one shampoo one conditioner used jug of warm water to rinse and finger dried .
Hair did not start to shed til after 6 weeks then hair dresser kept tidying up with short cuts . After no 4 cycle it started to grow so ended up with silly comb over strands of whispy hair . Two weeks ago after cycle 5 had a no. 2 shave so it can regrow in shape .
This was my choice and we are all different so no one can actually say what will happen with yourself but however your hair behaves during treatment remember it grows again .
Im in NE we get a voucher to the value of £200 and Browns of Tavistock visit hospital and set up a fitting . Again different in all areas I was referred by Oncologist at treatment plan meeting .
Nobody can tell the difference between wig and the new pixie cut I had .The cost was within the voucher cost . To be honest because it winter Although I have no problem with wig I am wearing chemo bamboo beanies ( Amazon ) With Headbands to match clothing or the beanie with a knitted pull on hat over the top most of the time . Wig comes out on occasion when hat or bald would look out of place lol

My hair started falling out last week at the end if the first cycle. I had already bought a selection of beanies and hats and so far have just worn them. We have a wig bank at our hospital and I have got a really lovely wig from them. Same as Northerner this is for when hats might not be appropriate. I am really pleased with the wig as it looks very natural.
Hi,
My hair also started to fall out big time at the end of the first cycle. I already have a bald patch appearing. Cycle 2 is tomorrow so am thinking I'm just going to forgot the cold cap now. It's not looking like it's going to work for me. Am thinking I will get my hair cut off this afternoon. Then its done and hopefully will be easier to deal with once I've got used to the new reflection in the mirror! I've found it quite stressful when it comes out by the handful.
Have you ever had your wig on while having a operation I can’t bear to be with out it I have my operation in 2weeks
Sorry, I don't know about the wig. They give you a paper hat (like a loose version of the surgeon's one) to wear along with paper pants under the gown. Good luck!
you should be able to wear your wig until you are asleep then it will need to be taken of for various reasons. The staff should replace it before you wake up. It's a horrible thought I know but they will should be respectful and professional. X
