What are radial scars ? Should I be concerned?

CBANN:  I'm answering you just because I want you to know people are reading and listening.  You'll probably get a lot of answers.  From what I think I know, radial scarring is basically a benign hyperplasia disease of the breast..  In itself it is not cancer.  However, it can be linked to cancer.  I'd make sure you get adequate follow up to rule out anything else.  If they're telling you that your radial scarring is definitely not linked to cancer, it's possible that hormonal fluctuations could have caused it.  I'm sure other things could cause it as well.  Like I said, i'm no expert on this, but just trying to give you a bit of comfort.  Not knowing and 2nd guessing everything is THE PITS!  Hugs, Mira

Hi! After my first mammogram in April I was recalled! Sent to local breast unit couple days later where they discovered after another mammogram ultrasound and biopsy I had what they were more or less sure was radial scarring! Fast forward one week, called to be told it was as suspected and would need to be removed! It’s as another reply says cells which mimic cancer cells and until biopsied can’t rule out anything sinister! If you’ve been told it’s radial scarring then please don’t worry they will remove it with a vacuum biopsie and you will be fine. I will say the vacuum biopsie is very uncomfortable unlike the needle biopsie so take some kind of painkiller before you go! Good luck! I’m on the bus writing this with no specs so please excuse any typos

Hi, was your needle biopsy results clear?  I'm tempted to leave well alone if my biopsy result is negative.  Hate the thought of the vacuum procedure x

    Hi

Warm welcome to the breast group, although sorry to see so many joining recently :-/

Most of those in the message you replied to have recovered and moved on over the last couple of years - Best thing would be to start a new discussion asking any questions or worries you may have.

    Hope this helps a bit, G n' J
